no, it's two different things. the device is a thing, and best norcer is the best one at it.

I think Norc for the sake of simplicity it will have to be only avators in use at the time of voting.

I like having Best Norcer as a seperate category too.

Tinuviel - {{{obviously you have the best and finest of noses in all the lands- thats one of the reasons youre Queen- obviously anyone with any sense and eyes in their head will vote for you, but for the sake of the plebs best to keep up the pretence of it being a 'competition'-your humble toady and Keeper of Her Majesty's Buckie, Petty}}}

Sorry for the delay -- here's the list of Newcomers. I didn't include people who only made a handful of posts or left after only a few days. A few people who joined in late 2011 but weren't included in last years Awards are here also. Smile

Also, Halfwise re-joined this year, but I think the precedent we set last year is that re-joining doesn't count for the Newcomer award.

thats not very fair. Best Norcer is like saying Best Scotsperson. We all know beforehand who will win, so thats totally a waste of time.
and I want my name taking of any lists. I didnt enjoy it last year, it made me go off you lot for a bit, so I would rather be a happy bystander this year.

Shrugging I can remove your name if you really want Mrs Figg- would be a shame in my view, the awards are supposed to be a bit of annual fun for everyone.

well, it's not that serious (LOL, what am I saying, of course it is.) it's just fun, though, you might have some pretty good chances of winning other categories, the writing for instant. and also, we already know who's gonna win best nose...

what is that category anyways?

The NotP covered Best Nose- its a traditonal award in honour of Her Majesty Queen Tinuviel.

In my experience Norc everyone has a chance of winning- Eldo lost his Best Lore to Elthir, Ringdrotten won most Repectable from Odo. Queen Tin drew for Finest Nose with Ally. I reckon my Most Crabbit title might have some competion this year.

It also brings up an unprecedented problem- as no one has opted out of the awards before in the past we've never had any rules about it, does that person still get to vote for example?

Well I count all the votes, so it could be done- the question is should it be done?
Should there be a ban on voting if you opt out the ceremony? Or should you be able to opt out of getting nominated but still be able to vote?

Obviously you can bow out of a nomination - I mean think of the burden of having to carry the title for a whole year: the press, the honorary ceremonies, the groupies you have to throw out of your hotel room. It's a bit much to accept, but doesn't make your vote any less valuable.

I would think refusing a nomination and pulling out the awards is more likely to make you a target for tabloid press than staying in- especially when the tabloid press in question are also the sponsors!

And I'm not saying that that if someone doesnt have a nomination they shouldnt have a vote (although I did strive to nominate all regular posters in at least one category each)- just we've never had someone want their name removed becuasue its 'no fun'.
But Im happy to go along with allowing voting even if the person withdraws- although would be a shame if it sets a precedent as I always saw and intended the awards to be an inclusive forum affair for everyone. Sad

Reminds me of when I went to a local school, that was having a "Christmas Sale", & they were trying to raise funds for said school. I went along, intending to buy, & in turn, my £1.00 or so would help towards whatever was needed. When I got there,I was told to bugger off really, I didnt have a child at that school & I wasnt a relative . I thought that was really petty ! As I was at least showing SOME interest in our community !
I feel if Mrs Figg wants to bow out, for whatever reasons are her own, she should be allowed. Its HER votes she will miss out on,which will be a shame,as I like her also. BUT, by not attending DOESNT mean she doesnt like anyone, or their posts & topics ? I think she should VOTE if she'd like to. She is still a member here after all, & will probably continue to be so.

Someone withdrawing has never happened before- hence my uncertainty over how to proceed, and I dont want to be making up all the rules. which is why I floated the question of what to do.
If the general concensious is that even if someone withdraws their name from the nominees they can still vote on others- then I am happy to go along with that.
On a personal note however I am still saddened that for the first time ever the Annual Awards will not cover everyone who post regularly on the forum. Sad

Best individual story.

Best serial.

Best drama

Best comedy

Best Author

Best Setting

Best Characters

so, how about these categories? I think we should add one more, best short story. I've already suggested Mrs Figg for best serial for her Agent Nora stories. Also Eldo should have a nomination, also best serial or drama (idk). I haven't read all the fics around here, but I believe the anon authors (plural that is) should have a fair go, both stories. In the drama we have (oh god I hope i don't go wrong here) but there was one here that wrote theatre/musicals idk? right?

also.. for the short story, this is a good category, because not all stories are long and all, I made a short story which I posted here, it doesn't fit anywhere. this also gives other people with not that much time on their hands to give writing a go. Not too long and so on Smile

I have no problems with including a Best Short story- perhaps also a Best Unfinished Tale (in true Tolkien spirit)- that way I can nominate Kafria's take on Dark Planet Day (even though I'm STILL waiting on the rest of it! Mad ).
