save the file-when its finished run it, follow install instructions- very simple- an thats it, right click on first file of megaedit select 'extract here' and you have the film- be watching it in minutes!

This "link" thingee -- err -- where it it? (Btw I'm quite an accomplished songwriter -- acoustic though -- of the old school --- pre computer age you know -- not techno, if you know what I mean... No, I'm not desperately trying to recover my dignity!! )( )

I opened LotR1 with Winrar (so far so good) --- it came up with a little box saying "extracting", or something (and it is running through numbers as if it's downloading or something). Do I wait patiently -- or have I not (amazing to think it, I know) done something dufus-ish?

Sounds good- its got to extract the whole lot and stick it back together- depending on your pc power depends how long it takes to do that- just let it finish- eyes still watering!

Should Winrar come as a "Trial"? (It is extracting. DVX is coming up by eack Lotr bit - is that okay? The box that comes up says Winrar (evaluation copy) at the top though...?)

Yeah dont worry about that- its a trial that never runs out and does what you need it to- not even quite sure why anyone would need a non trial version.

You should end up with a single film file at the end when its finished extracting-and there should be a bar at the bottom giving you rough idea of how much its done.

Where did you go Orwell? I've still got everything crossed! Can I uncross now? Do you have the film? Oooooooh ahhhhhhh cramp!

Ahh thank goodness for that. I'm more suprised than a man who has woken up to find he has ostrich nipples- I await your views with baited breath- even more baited at the moment cause I've seized up and can't get uncrossed. How am I going to get in my barrel now?!

I'm minded of an old Scotshobbiton saying: "Where there's a barrel there's a way."

There will be no way into my barrel if I can't get my extremities uncrossed. And my buckie is in there, next to the jacuzzi.

Which reminds me of an even more true never failing adage: "Where there's a buckie barrel there's a way, by Nockza Nell and all 'er lubbly daughters !"

Maybe if her lubbly daughters came round with a bucket of pig grease....

Err... I would almost leave out the prelim bit - one ring to rule them all. My first negative comment. I'm sure there'll be more!

I've turned it off now. Will await a better time to watch a good slab - maybe up to they leave Rivendell. Tomorrow morning I think. Got runnings-around to do now. (My lubbly daughter has to go to Uni at 1pm - it's 11.49 now)... Then it's all about getting organized for work -- life can be such a drag, man. (And fitting in some urgent posting in Forumshire! )

Other than (maybe) the prelim, so far so good.

While I'm on the subject, can I burn it to DVD's to watch on the telly?

A thought in repsonse to your crit- if I take it out there is nowhere else the viewer will learn the elves, dwarves and men got Rings or that Sauron forged one. Could be a problem that.

What about having Elrond mention it in Rivendell? Tentative comment only. I'll wait until I get to Rivendell and revisit that thought.

Another thought - are the rings (other than the One) mentioned anywhere else in the movies? Not much is made of them anyway --- not really even in the book.

I can't create footage out of nowhere- what you want me to do get a film unit and go ask Hugo Weaving if hes got a few minutes?!!!

Galadriel mentions the elven ring she has but that is it I think.

Besides the very first page of the book is the Ring Verse- seems a pure place to begin.

I see the reasoning. Sad Gandalf doesn't get to tell Frodo about the ring business. "Shadow of the Past" comes to mind - PJ apparently skimmed that chapter - he thought it lacked "pace", I assume. Gandalf might have said it himself. (I suppose getting Ian McKellan in is out of the question?) I thought Elrond recites it at the Council (sic) in Rivendell? Or have you removed that? Don't blame you if you did.
