Actually good day today, there is so much thick cloud and greyness that all the warmth is trapped underneath! And its only rained a few times.

What makes me crabbit is the way Brits always refer to "bank holidays". As if what the banks are doing is relevant to more than 0.05% of our lives. It's a national holiday: as in the whole nation is on holiday. At the very least call it a school holiday, some people are actually affected by schools being closed. Sheesh.

Halfy they were originally the days the Banks were on holiday- it just spread to the rest of the economy later- so the name is accurate, they are not national holidays. Unlike you Americans we dont have national holidays for frivolous events, but to celebrate our Monarchs official birthday (she has two- but Americans wouldnt understand that ).

From my understanding they ARE national holidays. People say "Bank holiday tomorrow, how about we make some watercress sandwiches and go perch about the Thames and sip tea."
