Yes,Mrs Figg, I tend to lean towards your ideals. We do need something as guidence, we do need to accept & appreciate this Earth of ours & the inhabitants on it, whether its animal,mineral,vegetable or human. The earth has only so much resources & who or where will we turn to when WE fuck it all up ?! Id rather aspire to well informed, intelligent agency of professional people than to acknowledge a "God" that I cant see,hear,feel or believe in100%. That,to me,is not only totally blind, narrow minded & shallow, but dangerous in the minimum. Look at previous wars we have created. In the anachy & chaos people DID resort to eating each other. Russia had a spell of that. Admittedly those poor people were deceased, but, there may well have been one or two vunerable or even "wished for" that were murdered ? But I think this might be an Utopian Idea, Of a world united ? One & all together, irrespective of any Religion you might hold, a Nirvana we will take centuries to adhere to. Religion is an amazinly strong weapon, tool, Faith, blindness, whatever you want to see it as. but to be honest, I dont believe faith will save your bacon in the end ! sorry ! (I mean faith in a Religion !)

Halfy there is no denying many of the grass roots who make up the Church membership do a lot of good. But that's kind of the least you expect of a church that claims to defend those without a voice.
And nor do I think there is any inherent link between doing good deeds and a belief in a deity.

Secular and atheists and agnostics throughout history have made immense inputs into improving the living standards of fellow humans.
That is what annoyed me about the new Archbishop of Cantebury's speech- he was implying without a belief in God we would all just run about killing each other- I think that's is a terribly pessimistic view of humanity to take.
I genuinely believe that taken as a whole the human race can and is better than that.
Besides examples of altruism and symbiosis can be seen from bacteria to complex life forms- and they dont need a belief system to force them into it.
Our own complex bodies only exist because two different sorts of life long ago combined to the advantage of both and made it possible to provide the energy for complex life to evolve. I doubt either lifeform went to church though!

Just as we created God and gods, we can create our own solutions, one of which is getting on with each other without needing disgusting vacuous superstition being used as a rool to make us be humane - or inhumane, which is what religion tends to provoke in us. We all know what is meant when we say, "Act humanely." "Humanely" is only a God thing when we grace our God/gods with humane traits. God/gods is/are created in the first place. Didn't I already say that? Here to help!

Hey! History tells us that God/gods have not solved the world's problems. Maybe it's time we accepted our evolutionary status and accepted responsibility for making the world bertter. British scientists have developed a new method to create an entirely synthetic vaccine which doesn't rely on using live infectious virus, meaning it is much safer.
What's more the prototype vaccine they have created, for the animal disease foot-and-mouth, has been engineered to make it more stable.
That means it can be kept out of the fridge for many hours before returning to the cold chain - overcoming one of the major hurdles in administering vaccines in the developing world.
The research, published in the journal PLOS pathogens, was a collaboration between scientists at Oxford and Reading Universities, the Pirbright Institute, and the UK's national synchrotron facility, the Diamond Light Source near Oxford.
Diamond is a particle accelerator which sends electrons round a giant magnetic ring at near light speeds.
The electrons emit energy in the form of intense X-rays which are channelled along "beamlines" - into laboratories where they are used to analyse structures in extraordinary detail.
Synchrotrons have been used before to analyse viruses at the atomic level, but the technology has advanced considerably to enable scientists to create a stable synthetic vaccine.
"What we have achieved here is close to the holy grail of foot-and-mouth vaccines.
Unlike traditional vaccines, there is no chance that the empty shell vaccine could revert to an infectious form," said Dave Stuart, Life Sciences Director at Diamond, and MRC Professor of Structural Biology at the University of Oxford.
"This work will have a broad and enduring impact on vaccine development, and the technology should be transferable to other viruses from the same family, such as poliovirus and hand-foot-and-mouth disease, a human virus which is currently endemic in South-East Asia."

I may not believe in religion or mysticism, but I can't deny that it brings something nothing else does, something we yearn for. Would LoTR have been as great a work without the deeply embedded (yet carefully kept from being too apparent) mysticism that pervades the work? Tolkien showed his towering genius by being himself a mystic clear to his bones, yet recognizing the need to keep it just barely tingling under the surface, lest it be destroyed by too much daylight.

These things impel us, without guiding us - guiding is for rational thought.

No they are very different. No whiney Aragorn, no nasty Faramir, no sending Sam away. Most scene have been edited in some fashion and nearly all have been moved about to follow the books structure.
Give them a go you might like them- and as they are uploaded as seperate 'books' book 1is to the ford so only an hour a bit long. So if you watch that and dont like it then you dont need to bother with the rest.
