Feds: Mississippi county runs 'school-to-prison pipeline'

Officials in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, have operated "a school-to-prison pipeline" that violates the constitutional rights of juveniles by incarcerating them for alleged school disciplinary infractions, some as minor as defiance, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.

"Students most affected by this system are African-American children and children with disabilities," the Justice Department said.

The federal agency's civil rights division seeks "meaningful negotiations" in 60 days to end the constitutional violations or else a federal lawsuit would be filed against state, county and local officials in Meridian, according to a Justice Department letter dated Friday to those officials.

Oh yeah, they're sending these kids to a private prison. What a surprise. Crying or Very sad

Pretty much at a loss for words beyond that.

I once got a lecture from a friend of mine with an interest in Sindarin about how I was horribly mispronouncing my own name but I don't really remember the correct pronunciation that he told me. Very Happy

...He was probably right though, especially since he helped me pick this name in the first place. scratch

For some reason, no matter where I use this name, someone always manages to spell it with an a: "Eldorian." The only variation on my name more common then that is everyone calling me Eldo, but that's at least a fairy self-evident abbreviation. Razz

Well it's Eldórion, right? Elven names and Norwegian (Scandinavian) pronunciation are good friends. But "Eldo" I say with a English, or American, twist now. El d'oh! Mainly cause of the Needlehole mysteries. Smile

I don't remember for sure. I'm pretty sure the -ion is supposed to be pronounced "eye-on" instead of "ee-un" (I say the latter) though. Eldo is much simpler though, yeah. Very Happy

If I could go back in time I would tell the younger me not to just assume time travel will exist so I can go back.and fix all the mistakes I've made

No time travel exists what you need is for future you to discover it, and that cant happen if present you stops believing in it.

The trouble is though that if future me goes back to younger me younger me KNOWS that time travel exists therefore present me would ALSO know it exists which leads to future me going back in time in the first place to younger me

And ultimately younger me would not learn the lesson of not relying on time travel to fix past mistakes
