Re: What's on your desktop?
Normally you dress warmer on launch than you would otherwise. The glider travels about 25 miles per hour, which is a good breeze you have to be prepared for, but since it moves with the air mass you don't have to worry about it going much faster than that except for when you dive. You typically try not to launch into winds you can't outfly, unless you plan to go cross country over the back of the mountain, which is a major part of the sport for many people.
Yeah, cow paddies are a risk. I know of someone who on his very first mountain flight skidded through nearly a dozen fresh ones on landing. It was said the laughter could be heard clear up on top of the mountain. The cows themselves are an obstinate obstacle themselves: cows not being known for looking up in the sky to see if they should clear out of the way.
Anyway, if you like the thought, tandem lessons are available. They are very particular about weather conditions, you needn't worry about being caught in a gale.

Re: What's on your desktop?
My desktop is almost tidy!!!
I foldered everything up and dumped it all in my documents folder- I'll need to bung it all back on the desktop when I need to use it but in the meantime I can see my wallpapers again! (Its set to cycle through my pics folder).

Re: What's on your desktop?
I tend to change my desktop background every few weeks, sometimes more like every month, but I've stuck with this one for quite a while now. I've thought about changing it a few times recently but I just really like it and haven't found anything else really striking. A few people who've seen it IRL have said they liked it too.

Someone who appreciates Calvin and Hobbes. If you had Garfield I'd have to disown you.

Ooh, awesome. I had a similar Yukon Ho! image of Calvin and Hobbes as my desktop a few months ago.
