Re: Future releases
Yeah, I can't imagine it's any less stupid than all the other comedies these guys put out. That said, I actually really enjoyed Tropic Thunder and 21 Jump Street, which share several of the same stars.
Re: Future releases
I tried to watch Hunger Games but was bored stiff within the first 15 minutes. its crap. That girl has one expression the WHOLE TIME. just a blank stare, I know she is a tough cookie, but thats no excuse . You cant beat Logans Run or Soylent Green for dystopian fantasy.

Re: Future releases
Jennifer Laurence can act though, if she's given a real character. "Winter's Bone" is what made her famous. She plays a teenage hillbilly girl who's trying to keep the family cabin and raise her younger brother and sister in the middle of rural Meth culture. It's dark, but it's honest and it's beautiful in it's way.

Re: Future releases
yeah, jennifer lawrence is good, althoug the HG script might not have been the best one.
Re: Future releases
if she is good why does she just have one expression in HG? the dialogue might be rubbish but she could still emote, something. anything. You dont get any idea what she is thinking or feeling, its like looking at a plastic doll.

Re: Future releases
I watched most of Hunger Games because other people had it on the TV and i was curious. Although there wasn't much about the story that engaged me, I could see how it could have been fun when I was younger. But I don't think it was aimed at our demographic Mrs Figg.
In Winter's Bone she was a kid who was forced to be an adult. The conflicting emotions came through clearly, with the understated pride of a person with nothing but honor to her name, not sobs or screaming. In Hunger Games she was a few years older in real life, but still having to play a young girl, without nearly the quality of character, writing, or direction. That's probably a lot harder....

Re: Future releases
I wasn't very impressed by The Hunger Games in either book or movie form, but I thought that Jennifer Lawrence was great in Silver Linings Playbook. As far as THG is concerned, Katniss as a character is acting and pretending for most of the movie. In the right hands this complexity can be really impressive, but The Hunger Games was not well-written or directed enough for that.
Re: Future releases
i agree with eldo, although i liked the book. i think the movie simplified it too much and made it more"child-friendly" which it isn't (the book)
Re: Future releases
have you seen Logans Run? the story is kind of similar, but its a classic of cinema imo.

Re: Future releases
Unfortunately I haven't. I did see and enjoy Battle Royale though, which uses a very similar "kids fighting to the death" premise like THG.

Re: Future releases
So apparently Independence Day 2 is happening. I've still never seen the first one. Roland Emmerich will be directing again, no word yet on if Will Smith is joining.
Anyway, it's joining the already absurdly overpacked blockbuster line-up of 2015 in the Fourth of July spot. It will probably share the year with The Avengers 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, and Star Wars 7; and possibly with Jurassic Park 4, Avatar 2, and Justice League.

Re: Future releases
Yeah, much as I love POTC (or at least the first few movies) I'm not holding out much hope for POTC 5.

Re: Future releases
Terry Gilliam presents: Brazil 2.
Will likely get pulled from YouTube so watch it while you have the chance.

Re: Future releases
That lasted less than 1.5 hours.

Re: Future releases
Damn, that was fast.
It was a really bizarre three minutes featuring lots of bald Christoph Waltz, one shot of Matt Damon's back, and a whole lot of psychedelic stuff that likely won't make sense even in the context of the finished film. But it also looked pretty fun.

Brazil 2? wot!!!! srsly?
on the other hand without Robert deNiro? Terry Gilliam although I admire him, I found the last couple of films he did quite disappointing.

Re: Future releases
I shall always revere Terry Gilliam for his concept of a superhero air conditioner repairman. And then for having the balls to cast Robert DeNiro in the role.
