Been watching A Discovery of Witches. I say its jolly romantic. its a bit like Twilight for adults. its got a dangerous brooding vampire, and fantastic locations in Oxford, Venice and a French castle, and some great acting from class actors, whats not to like. Razz

I watched this on Netflix recently, tho the version I watched was dubbed into English. It was a bit slow & I did expect more but, I ended up liking it & hope there will be a 2nd series Smile

{{ If your looking for something to watch while stuck indoors, and thats free, I can recommend this fan made series based on the popular Fallout series of games.
If your unfamilar with the games basically its an alternative timeline earth. Everything is the same up till the 1950's.
The future however of the Fallout universe, and what gives it a lot of its charm, is that the future that happens is the future as seen from the dreams of the 1950's, particualrly US dreams of the future from the 1950's perspective.
So its a future of shiny chrome, nuclear powered cars and even tv's, MR Handy household robots to help the little woman in the kitchen that sort of thing.

And then the bombs fell, hence the name Fallout- and this shiny 1950's envisioned future was reduced to rubble and radioactive ashes, producting mutations and leaving the survivors to eek out a living on the polluted land, forming small communitites, tribes, gangs and the like.
Whilst a select few saw out the nuclear war in Vaults, specially built to survie the war (and unknowingly to their inhabitants often experimented on by Vaulttec, who made the vaults, in twisted ways)

And that is the setting for Fallout.

And heres the series based on it in order of watching. }}

I got hooked into Red Dwarf myself last night Smile forgot how awfully bad in a funny way it was Smile How can you not like Red Dwarf ? Smile IL be tuning into "The Promised Land" also, as long as I don't forget or, nod off. My son came in last night, said "what the hell are you watching ?". I had a big cheesy grin on my face "Red Dwarf" I said, "Its great!"

You may be thinking of the same thing as some of it is in France. It is relatively dark so far. I quite like it.

{{ I thought it might be same one you had mentioned Figg- does it have tripods and Heat Rays in it? Not sure, even if I like it, I can call it War of the Worlds without tripods, otherwise what makes it WoW visually and not any other alien invasion film? Rather hoping the trailer there was just keepin g them back so as not to reveal too much. I was encouraged by the fact the trailer emphasis the similarity betwen humans and alien aggression and motivations right off the bat, pointing hopefully to it having some of the books more philosophical leanings left in tact. }}

no, no tripods or heat rays in it at the moment, just small mechanical dog-like creatures which are supposed to be kill-drones. Maybe in the next season it will hot up but I don't think they have the budget, it looks low budget, the emphasis is on the character development. and how people react to extreme situations.

Yeah, so far it is very different. You should really give the first 2/3 episodes a watch and see what you think.

So far it could be any alien invasion but not sure if that will change to pay homage to some of the classic elements of a War of the Worlds story but so far I am enjoying it.

Seems to me a little more like an actual alien invasion than most films in which so plot mcguffin managed humans to will in spectacular fashion.

Just watching the new season 3 of Babylon Berlin on Sky. Its quite magnificent. If you can watch season 1 & 2 I would highly recommended it. It is the most popular German TV show in history, and it has sub-titles or dubbing not sure which for English viewers. I watch it in Italian. As a period mystery drama it is hard to beat. Its like nothing else on telly because it is like a time machine and you can almost smell the sweat and grime, the dirty hair and shabby clothes. It looks amazing.

I just watched the first episode last night. Unfortunately it was dubbed in English: I prefer subtitles. The first episode doesn't get to the Babylon part yet; could be any period cop drama at this point. If not for knowing where it was going I might not feel as compelled to keep watching. It was good, but not yet magical.

Second episode brought the goods. I like how they don't feel compelled to explain things - it keeps the aura of mystery. And of course we had that famous dance hall scene. I hope there's a lot more of those.

I don't think we all get the same video line up. For me the next one (I had to go to youtube) is a longer version of the Babylon Berlin video (almost all of which is from the second episode).
