Dont know the rest but will take a look, especially at your recommendation Queens' Gambit.
The best thing about Queen's Gambit is they have all these chances to get preachy but never do. They just let the kid girl do her thing, and there's only one thing she does well - pretty much flounders through everything else. Drugs, sexism, broken roles are all there, but it's just the reality she has to push through with no added commentary necessary.

Re: Television programmes [2]
I'm wary of "one-hundred-percent fresh" for TV shows on RT: they must cheat the review system or something because the content is hardly so good as all that. Doctor Who has, of late, gotten undeservedly-high scores on RT in the last few seasons.
After my girlfriend drove back up to Sacramento yesterday afternoon I spent some time on Hulu watching a few shows. I tried to start Attack on Titan again, but it's still bad.
I remember Cowboy Bebop being mentioned on here some years ago and I gave the first episode, "Asteroid Blues", a watch. It was quite enjoyable! Far better than the over-wrought suffering-drama that is AoT's first few episodes.

Cowboy Bebop is pretty great. I think you'll enjoy it.

Just watched the conclusion of Queen's Gambit. The last 20 minutes were one of the most supremely satisfying conclusions to a series that I've ever seen. All the themes and motifs planted throughout the episodes come together in a tightly choreographed finale so beautiful to keep tears in the eyes throughout.

Already watched it. Always.something in each episode to make you keep watching. I liked it, but very slow.

Oh I could go on and on. But until others have seen it there's no point. Only 6 hours, easy to binge watch.

Re: Television programmes [2]
I watched the first episode, but I've been busy with Stranger Things (amazing characters and setting), the Handmaid's Tale (incredibly intense and troubling), His Dark Materials (interesting, but I hear the new second season is better), the Mandalorian (great extended universe fun), and rewatching the two last seasons of the West Wing because of the election.
Might get back to it, however.

Stranger Things is a joy. Haven't done the third season yet.
I wonder how long I'll have to wait before The Mandalorian migrates off Disney?

I mean, possibly forever yeah? Aren't they going to keep that exclusive?

it would be just like them. The Mouse is a proper stinker when it comes to that sort of thing.

Mandalorian and His Dark materials coming to an end. Both excellent. Expance starts this week and has been a very good watch.

Yes. Thought it was great. Better then recent Star wars movies. Probably the best thing on television.

Re: Television programmes [2]
Is it the end of the series or just the season? I'm thinking of getting Disney for a month just to binge watch it. More attractive if you know you're getting the whole thing.

Re: Television programmes [2]
End of season 2. There's a 3 minute clip after the credits which I missed. Had to go back and watch it. Book of Bobo Fett or something. Another series coming out next year.

Re: Television programmes [2]
Series 3 is supposed to come out this time next year so may as well binge watch it now.
Last episode was pretty great. Last 4 or 5 have been really good actually.

Re: Television programmes [2]
Watched the first two episodes of the Mandalorian. Feel like Star Wars came back after a nearly 4 decade hiatus. Did John Favreau write all the episodes?

Re: Television programmes [2]
I think he wrote the majority of them at least fully or co-wrote. The directorship was shared out between a lot of people.
There are a couple of weaker episodes, particularly in series 1, but weaker doesn't mean bad!
And yes, it feels very Stat Wars. I think you can tell it was created by people that loved Star Wars and not by people who wanted a big credit to their name!

Re: Television programmes [2]
One thing I've realized: the music is quite appropriate to the task, but not memorable. I sort of wonder if you want memorable music in a series, but that's definitely what separates this from Star Wars. One has to wonder if Star Wars could have taken off without John Williams.

Re: Television programmes [2]
John Williams always freely admitted to cribbing from Gustav Holst, but those other cribs are really obvious - at least once you've heard them!

Re: Television programmes [2]
Also, compare the Star Wars throne room music to 1812 overture. I don't have the patience to claw out sections of each for comparison, but it's the Force theme playing with the orchestra in unison going Chunk!....Chunk!-Chunk! ---Chunk! to accompany it.
