On the hawks that is their smoke pod.
On the Typhoon it is a fuel tank.
No missiles on this occasion.

Re: Just...................whatever
Why would a fuel tank need fins?

Well, technically they are drop tanks that can be detached in flight. I believe the funds have something to do with making sure the tanks goes in the right direction when it is dropped (down instead of back).
Re: Just...................whatever
ah, so they are supposed to stick in the dirt like a Greek amphora waiting to be picked up. I'm sure the bloke who ends up with one of those in his roof will appreciate the fins keeping nose end down.

Re: Just...................whatever
I've been trying to trill my Rs for two hours now. Feel like I'm going crazy. (And I surely look it as I walk around my cabin r-r-ring to myself.)
I can tap the R in most words, that's fine, but the only "trill" I've gotten to work is a "fffrrrr-r-r-r-r-r" and I'm sure it's much more forceful than it should be. It works in words like "Chr-r-r-ristopher" but it probably looks mental while I do it, and it's still too forceful.
I'm over it for today. Time to do something relaxing like watch Rings of Power!

One way to learn that R is to say TD repeatedly and rapidly. (Not tee dee, but the sounds)
Or take words with tr and say td instead.
Tdactor, tdaffic, tdumpet. Then repeat.
Tdactor tdactor tdactor...

That only gets you the tapped R. The trilled R is like 100 times harder to make work. At least for me.

Re: Just...................whatever
I had to check what that was. Shouldn't get tapped rs, based on my 2 minute education online, from t-d. Say ta-daa. Feel where the tongue goes.
In my head I stuggle with pot of tea, since it’s English word and they should sound English/American so I overthink rather than stumble across the correct sound.
I do the same with tdactor, but tdaktor is fine.

Re: Just...................whatever
I just struggle.
The tongue goes to the same place for a tapped R as it does for a rolled R: just behind the upper teeth. The difference is... well something. I don't know, that's the problem. The tongue is more relaxed for the roll, certainly, as the sound is made by your tongue vibrating in your expelled air.

{{ when you go to make the normal R with the tongue behind the teeth as you try to roll it roll the end of your tongue back towards the centre of the roof of the mouth as you expell air and let your tongue vibrate and youll be rolling r's everywhere. }}

{{ Was chatting to someone at work about when we first saw certain horror films as kids not meant for kids. And weird thing is when I first saw Evil Dead, The Exorcist, Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and even A Clockwork Orange among others, I did so illegally. Not because I was underage but because of an air of moral panic around so called 'video nasties' fuelled by the tabloids now VHS recorders were becoming common in the home. The upshot is all those films were completely illegal in the UK when I was in my teens. I saw them all on unmarked vhs tapes I had to purchase literally from under a counter (and occasionally pulled from a holdall) at a dodgy stall that sold porn mags (and under the counter hardcore porn which was also illegal) at the Glasgow Barras Market.
I can still remember the odd thrill of the train and ferry journey home from Glasgow that only comes from being young and knowing your doing somehting illegal, and if I had been stopped or checked by police I would have been arrested under the Obscene Publications Act, for watching Evil Dead.
Its all seems so bizarre now.
Anyone elses country have bizarre bans on media?}}

Re: Just...................whatever
Got a question. I find all baby animals adorable. Whether it is a baby spider or a baby spider monkey, they all make me go awwwww! so cute. But I feel totally indifferent to human babies. They don't make me go awww! I don't dslike them, they just bore me a bit. For example a woman came into a shop with a baby and a dog and everyone was cooing at the baby and I was cooing the dog because it was a way cuter fluffy little cuddlebum
She looked quite offended,
Does that make me a freak?
that's a yes isn't it.

Yeah, human babies do nothing for me. Is this why we don't have kids?
As for Petty's much earlier question, I don't think we have bans on anything except child pornography, though we do have bans on what age people have to be for films in a theater. I'm pretty sure the application to over the counter video media is pretty slipshod, and depends on who happens to be behind the counter at the time.
Far as film ratings go, as we all know it's perfectly fine to blow somebody's head off so long as evil intent is involved, but blowing somebody's head with a sense of pure love and human charity can't be shown or sold to anyone under the age of 18.

Other people's babies usually are just whatever. Toddlers are way cuter, and you know, you can play with them beyond just "Peek-a-boo!"Mrs Figg wrote:Got a question. I find all baby animals adorable. But when I have babies, they're going to be the best for sure.

When you have a baby you'll be run so ragged feeding it and trying to keep it quiet that you won't have time for love - just relentless duty. It's not love at first sight; love grows over the weeks and months as you finally find your stride and catch your breath. Or so a wise old jewish lady told me.

just found a brilliant way to make a mobile heated blanket. you know those strips of plastic sheeting that sticks on muscles to heat them up, Thermocare its called, well if you place one round your shoulders, neck or back, it heats you up nicely for 8 hours. Its cheaper than putting on the heating.

had to look that up. About $3/person for 8 hours of heating. That actually seems a bit expensive, but what do I know, I live in Manhattan where the steam heat comes for free by law.

Re: Just...................whatever
All the buildings from the southern tip of Manhattan up to 96th street are heated by one huge system of pipes, with steam provided by the city for free for the last 130 years or so. Because of this, it was made regulation that all landlords had to provide heating for tenants for free (more correctly, bundled with rent, but it *feels* free).
For those who are unfamiliar with this technology, steam is pumped from boilers through perhaps miles of pipes into building radiators. This system is responsible for the steam you often see coming up from manholes and cracks in the sidewalk, a common theme in films set in Manhattan. It doesn't happen all the time, but there's enough of it to create a nice film noire feeling in places at night. The trope is based in reality.
I've lived in two buildings since I moved here, each steam heated. It's a good alarm system, since it's often turned off to coast through the night under the building's stored warmth. Then about an hour before sunrise there's the hiss of steam as the radiators begin to fill and the pressure equilibrates. This is followed by cracking and clanking as the pipes expand and readjust - quite alarming the first time you hear it! But eventually as you come to associate it with warm morning air it becomes soothing music to your ears in the winter, sort of filling in for the chirping of birds.
There's not that many newer residential buildings around, so living in New York, the sounds and rhythms of steam heat is part of the experience. It's the largest steam heat system in the world, as big as the next 9 systems combined.

I think that was the rush of an incoming subway underneath an air vent. You would have seen steam otherwise.
