ay weel its a wee bit too early to say hen.
I looked on the map, and I never knew Edinburgh was so near the sea. The beach looks crap. But the city itself looks amazeballs.

{{ You'll love the art and architecture of Edinburgh, and the Old City part especially Figg. But if its Feb, on the eastcoast it'll be either rain, snow, sleet, gale force winds or bright, clear and sunny...on most days.
You might want to put the Writers Museum, the Scottish National Gallery, National Museum of Scotland and the City Art Centre on your visits list alongside the usual stuff like the Castle and Scott Monument. }}

Re: Just...................whatever
That's a LOT of granite, its very mediaeval baronial style. its probably full to the brim with interesting nooks and crannies. I read a book once where it said in the 18/19th century aristocrats would live in the same building that ordinary citizens lived. in those tall tenement buildings, don't know if its true, and there was a newer Georgian bit which was for the posh people. I reckon if the weather defeated me, because I really cant stand having nippy neeps, I might scoot off doon south to Scarborough. I don't mind Scarborough cold, because it never gets as bad as say in Newcastle, which was dire with freezing fog. Being Mancunian I am not built like those Geordie Vikings. I cant walk around in a T-shirt in minus 10. I walk round like an eskimo.

Re: Just...................whatever
January, that's when I was in Edinburgh. Loved it!
Nice and crisp haha.
I liked the Writer's Museum, that was interesting. And yeah all the little nooks and crannies near along the Mile. I forget the name but I liked the cathedral up there too.
I wish I could go back now that I have more confidence, and under my own sail so to speak. So much more time to explore. And I drink now too, so trying some whisky would be fun.

Even in this day of American microbrew ascendency, you haven't had beer until you've had it in the old country.

{{ Yeah true. The nobs on the upper floors in the clean air and the further down thebuilding you went thelower the class. The very poor lived in streets that were actually under the city.
You can go on tours of some of them. Also some spooky ghost tours round the cities many supposedly haunted sites. Silly fun but also a good way to learn some of the cities more grizzly history and characters like grave robbers Burke and Hare. }}

crikey, that is spooky. Its mediaeval, but not like mediaeval in York or Oxford, where its pretty chocolate box mediaeval, this is full on GoT mud and blood mediaeval.

Re: Just...................whatever
I have this habit of stepping into the path of outraged groups on forums. Very unfortunate tendency if one dislikes conflict.
This guy said something questionable on this gaming discord server I'm on, and the usual types leapt in to decry and show their purity of opinion. The user was immediately banned rather than being warned. And then I had the genius idea to argue against the ban in the appropriate channel.
Oof, you should really just keep your head down during the witch-burnings. I hate this kind of thing.

Re: Just...................whatever
I think people actually enjoy being offended. It gives them the opportunity to 'witch burn' and feel virtuous about it. I often go to a particular Youtube channel of the guy who wrote the Father Ted TV show. It is a hotbed of the current controversies, but because I feel strongly that logic, facts and science will overcome seemingly overwhelming odds, I don't mind sticking my nose in and I don't hate tough adult debate, what I hate is bullying, banning and cancelling. The important thing is not to allow yourself to be silenced.

Re: Just...................whatever
I mean I get a little bit of banning from a public forum, when someone is clearly just trolling with pictures of pornography or something stupid.
It's when a single comment is enough to judge a person as a "hateful bigot". All the internet warriors come streaming in telling the user to fuck off and planting their little flags on Outrage Hill. It's all so tiresome.
Oh yeah, I made an account once but never used it. You hear such things.
