Could you prepare an english version of this book? It would have a wider audience and the publisher may be more willing to foot the bill. Plus some of use would buy it - you can tell'em you've already got pre orders, and you'll be shopping it around at the Met.

yeah I am a total doofus Firstly it didnt occur to me and secondly I have no idea how to plonk it in the application without it being a cringe. but anyway I will think of something.

The original is in English, its my masters thesis made into a book, but its still in academic language, its not been adapted and you need special skills to do that I reckon. I got the thesis translated by a professional into Italian and she adapted it as she went along. My Italian writing skills were not at that high enough level. It cost me 1000 euros but its worth it if I want to publish it here. I am doing this for the honour not money, I will make peanuts but that's not the point of it, I just want to be published. I was chuffed that they were interested in it to begin with.

Re: Just...................whatever
This is so cute. Usually when kids come into environments dominated by adults they are treated gently, but it seems in chess tournaments it's typical for older players to playfully trash talk the kids they are playing against. Though I was a bit shocked at first I see that it builds up toughness against criticism and social distraction.
The clip below shows an absolutely adorable 9 year old girl pitted against a guy who looks to be in his 60's. The way his trash talk bounces off her almost makes me giggle. Behind them is a middle aged man going against a teenage boy, and you see much the same dynamic. It's lovely to see this mental resilience in the kids.

Re: Just...................whatever
Wow, you know sometimes you're over-tired and you sleep in on a weekend, but during that time you keep working your way through a seemingly epic-length dream? I even made it to the end too.
What a weird one too. Sprawling underground school in the mountains for an insular and extended family. Visiting scholar as the main character, growing suspicions, history of diabolism in the town, missing students. At the deepest points of the school various entrances into a frightful, hellish underworld. Scholar finds out these darker secrets, school authorities catch him, beat him, send him to some kind of monstrous butcher. Through ridiculous luck manages to slay the butcher and escape. Hunted through hellscape until climbing to the outside, a la The Descent.
Corrupt authorities from town are called in, sniper chase along mountain-top, helicopter. But main character captures some of the staff, uses their own weapons against them, converting them into bat-monsters and disguises himself as an innocent. Gets away with this ruse.
Ends up with friends who are camping. Basically safe now, and an attractive one of their number needs a tent-buddy to help her keep warm at night...
Anyway, what a weird one. Over-sharing my dreams on Forumshire now, whatever am I doing!

Was all making perfect sense until the conversion into bat-monsters. I think that's the one to work on.

You know that's not the way academia works - nothing's on the clock: if I don't have time I don't have time, period. Though it's more of a priority thing...if I thought it was more important than other things then I'd go get it done. But it's the end of the semester, nope.

Nah you gotta figure out where to do it, wait around for it to happen, etc. The immunity levels are slowly waning, not a big rush.

That's fine if you are under the age of 40 and live like a hermit in the middle of a forest. For the rest of us, a horrible and totally avoidable death is on our fear carousel.

Re: Just...................whatever
For the initial vaccine I agree with you, there is a rush to get it done, and I did. But for the booster it's more like an oil change - you can do it at your convenience without too much worry so long as you don't blow it off. A few weeks won't make much difference.

Re: Just...................whatever
Well, hope you can get off soon. It spins far faster than is justified, for it is well-greased and its attendants are mad with the power of it.
I mean, I was just looking up the death totals as I usually do when someone posts about Covid here, and for a moment I was like, oh no it's almost 800k now. And then I remembered, oh yeah, it's still a tiny portion of the population. 0.24% of the country since it started: a little over 2 in a thousand over a period of two years, meaning that the average person knows about one person who died of it (though they may not know it if the person is out of touch).
Hardly something that necessitates constant vigilance and worry about.
And yeah, being 30 affects my view of it as I'm FAR more likely to die in my car than of Covid and I drive all the time. But I got the vaccine anyway for the heck of it, while my bloody parents continue to refuse!
