I'd think of this as the same as where should a waste dump be placed. Nobody wants them nearby, so the smaller populations will be outvoted. That's just the way it works.
Yep, that list goes on and on.
...garbage dumps, prisons, oil refineries, power plants, dams......
"WE need this, so let's vote to put it in HIS back yard so WE get the all benefits without having to see it."
It's the tyranny of democracy.
And what's worse, it's always framed as if they're doing us a favor. Like "look at all the fine new minimum wage jobs we're creating for you poor people!"

{{ I dont think Cummings will go anywhere. Boris is sticking by him through thick and thin, even spending a lot of political capital to do so, and he has the cabinet, especially the likes of Gove rallying to the defense.
If anything is going to happen it will be today, as this afternoon Boris faces his own backbenchers in a meeting. Many of whom have called for Cummings to go, and have no personal love for the guy.
There has been 1 resignation over it, Douglas Ross, of the Scottish Office.
This is more to do with Scottish politics than Cummings directly I'd hazard however. You see near the start of the Lockdown the Chief Medical Adviser to the Scottish Government travleled to her second home to stay. As a resault Sturgeon had to fire her for breaking Lockdown rules and among the loudest calls for her to go was from the Scottish Tories.
Ross knows his poistion is untenable if he doesnt have the same position on Cummings. So to avoid the Scottish Tories seeming utter hypocrites he has resigned in protest. But I dont see many others following suit, particualry not from within the Westminster Party- and without those threats to resign and go public Boris will not feel enough presure to fire Cummings and will hang on in there waiting for it to blow over. }}

Re: We're all doomed! Doomed I say- the Corona virus thread for panicking in!
{{ Interesting poll results -
'A survey for BBC Scotland suggested that a majority of people thought Boris Johnson and UK ministers had handled the pandemic "fairly" or "very" badly.
Meanwhile 82% of respondents said First Minister Nicola Sturgeon had handled the crisis well overall, with only 8% saying she had done badly.
A total of 70% said the UK had entered lockdown "too late" on 23 March - and 77% said that easing restrictions "too quickly" would be "a bigger risk for Scotland" than easing them too slowly.
A total of 82% of respondents said Ms Sturgeon had handled the outbreak "fairly" or "very" well, to 8% "fairly" or "very" badly, giving her a net approval rating of +74. The Scottish government's score was +67.
Meanwhile 30% of those who took part said the prime minister was handling the outbreak "fairly" or "very" well, compared to 55% "fairly" or "very" badly - a net approval rating of -25. The UK government's overall rating was -17.
81% said Scotland's restrictions should be lifted at a different time to those in the rest of the UK "if the Scottish government believes that is necessary", with 19% saying the lockdown should be lifted north of the border "at the same time as in the rest of the UK".- BBC
Looks like Nicola has been reading the countries mood pretty well, also the fact she has made a daily briefing since it started and not missed a single one, talks plainly and directly, giving facts and information, then explaining her own jusdgement and why she is making the decisions she is, and based off what, makes her a far more reassuring figure compared to Boris.
So I am not at all surpised at the polling results (and this poll was conducted before the Cummings affair blow up).}}

Re: We're all doomed! Doomed I say- the Corona virus thread for panicking in!
{{ Cummings will be staying put- heres a summary of Boris responses to questions this afternoon-
'Boris Johnson replies that "a lot of what was written was false" and suggests Mr Wishart is making "party political points".
He adds that he disagrees the government's messaging has been undermined and says it is "time to move on".
Mr Wishart...He says anger is reaching "fever pitch" and urges the PM to let his adviser go.
Boris Johnson reiterates that Mr Wishart is making a political point.
Meg Hillier asks the PM about whether he had seen the evidence about so-called "false" allegations by the media on Dominic Cummings.
Johnson says he has seen the evidence, she asks if it should be published or handed to the cabinet secretary.
Johnson says: "I would not be doing my job if I were now to shuffle this problem into the hands of officials... who are working flat out to deal with coronavirus. I know there is a great political interest in this and I totally understand the public indignation, but... I have said what I have said about the whole business and it would be much better if we could move on."
Simon Hoare suggests that the British people will be "far less energetic" about following lockdown as a result of Dominic Cummings' actions.
Boris Johnson argues that isn't true and praises the British people for responding "with fantastic responsibility".
Yvette Cooper continues to repeat her question while Mr Johnson insists "you would have to look at each individual case".
"The reason you are not giving a straight answer is because you are trying to protect Dominic Cummings and you don't want to apologise for him," says Ms Cooper.
The PM says it is no wonder the public "feel confused" when politicians are "bickering".
Simon Hoare is critical over the Dominic Cummings saga...critics say that what has happened, regarding his chief aide, could directly impact how the public responds to the evolving lockdown rules.
But the PM rejects suggestions that people are now more likely to flout them.
Simon Hoare comes back in to say Cummings is now a "distraction" and he doesn't understand why he is so "pivotal" to Johnson.
The PM says he has "made that point several times".
He adds that he does understand people's feelings and why there is "such indignation about the pain of the whole business of lockdown".
But Johnson says the public wants politicians to "focus on them and their needs rather than a political ding dong".
I think its clear from this afternoon that Boris is keeping Cummings on, come what may. }}

How come these poll results contain both "fairly or very badly " and "fairly or very well"? I take it "fairly" is supposed to be neutral? the they should say "fairly TO very badly" not "OR".

{{In this case your getting a good translation already!
Ive been enjoying Jane Godley's stuff, she's a stand up comedian, had never heard of her before this, but I like what she does with these.
The genius of them is they are never mean spirited, and she doesnt just make stuff up as such to dub over, it usually actually what Nicola was saying in her daily briefing, just retranslated into everyday Glaswegian. So same topics, just cruder and funnier. Makes you feel thats what Nicola is actually thinking before she put sinto broadcastable Politician.
Heres some of my favourites since the daily briefings began, enjoy.
And seems Nicola thinks theyre pretty accurate sometimes too! }}
{{In this case your getting a good translation already!
