You may have a point.- Amarie
{{Problem there is it precludes any male author ever writing a woman who is anyway sexy, aggressive in her sexuality, or who has any form of fetish, despite such women obviously existing, without being accused of juts putting his own fantasies onto it.
Not that Moffat did just write women that way, nor are women generally portrayed that way throughout, there are many female characters people always choose to forget from his era as they dont fit the stereotype being promoted about female characters under his showrunning.
Mrs Angelo who is Amy's neighbour in 11th Hour. The girl in The Beast Below. Aleyah and Nasreen from Hungry Earth. Rosanna and Isabella in Vampires of Venice. Sophie in the Lodger. Abigail, A Christmas Carol. Idris the Doctor's Wife. Jennifer and Cleaves Rebel Flesh. Rita, The God Complex. Madge and Lily, The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. Miss Kizlet, The Bells of St John. Mary, Rings of Akenaten. Emma, Hide. And thats just the first two series of his time as showrunner. Every series is the same. But no-one ever talks about any of them as they don't fit the Moffat bad to women narrative. }}

At least we can all agree that Chibnall leaving forever is wonderful news.

{{ Its not over yet! We still have Jodies and Chibnall's final episode to go in the Centenary Special, or as I prefer to think of it, the 'lets throw everything at the wall and pray something sticks this time' Special. Given Jodie has been often overshadowed in the role by her own shadow I'll be surprised if anyone notices she even has regenerated among the myriad of old returning pre-Chibnall characters and villians in it. }}

Re: All New Who
David Tennant and Catherine Tate are returning for the show's 60th anniversary
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-61455936
Tennant returning is not unexpected at all, but Catherine tate is a pleasant surprise. The Donna/10 team is one of the show's best in my opinion and it will be great to see them back together after 15 years.
...However it may not be a simple case of a 'unseen' adventure from Series 4, as RTD hints...
A few months ago their was a rumour going round that Tennant was returning in a trilogy of specials but not as the 10th Doctor...perhaps this is from a alternate timeline or Jodie's regeneration has gone wrong or something? maybe it's set inside the Doctor's subconcious mind or something?
Filming started today(?) or yesterday I think and some interesting pics have already leaked on Gallifreybase:
Also hearing rumours Bernard Cribbins may be making some sort of appearance? RTD hinted on instagram more announcements may be coming...
...Maybe Smith or Capaldi are also returning? (fingers crossed for at least one other former Doctor to make a return, McGann still really deserves more screentime i.m.o)
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-61455936
David Tennant and Catherine Tate are to return to Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.
The pair are currently filming for the sci-fi show's 60th anniversary, which it will celebrate in 2023.
Tennant played the 10th Doctor on the time travel drama from 2005-2010, while Tate played companion Donna Noble.
The news comes a week after the BBC announced that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will be the next Doctor.
Tennant and Tate's involvement means they will be reunited with returning Doctor Who head writer Russell T Davies.
Davies, who was in charge of Doctor Who when it was successfully revived in 2005, left at the same time as Tennant. Their last episode together was broadcast in 2010.
Tennant has briefly returned before, joining then-Doctor Matt Smith for the programme's 50th anniversary in 2013.
It's not clear at this stage whether this return will be a similar one, with Tennant and Tate appearing alongside Gatwa.
Davies has teased fans, saying: "Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it's going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime."
Tennant and Tate's 2008 series of Doctor Who is the most successful that the show has had since its revival in 2005, with an average audience of more than eight million viewers per episode.
The 13-episode run also enjoyed a high degree of critical acclaim, and was nominated for best drama at that year's Bafta TV Awards.
The pair's popularity may well provide a ratings boost for a show which has seen its audience fall in the last two years, albeit against a background where all linear TV viewing has been dropping significantly.
Announcements such as this are often made ahead of Doctor Who imminently filming in public places. Revealing information ahead of shooting is a strategy that the show has used before.
Jodie Whittaker's current incarnation of the Doctor will appear in one more special episode later this year, as part of a collection of programmes celebrating the BBC's centenary. The show will then return in 2023.
Since leaving Doctor Who, Tennant has appeared in TV series including Good Omens, Around the World in 80 Days and Broadchurch. In 2021, he won a National Television Award for playing serial killer Dennis Nilsen in Des.
Tate has appeared in sitcoms like Big School, and has continued performing her well known Nan character - most recently in The Nan Movie released earlier this year.
The pair have also recorded a number of Doctor Who audio adventures which have been released by audio drama company Big Finish.
Tennant returning is not unexpected at all, but Catherine tate is a pleasant surprise. The Donna/10 team is one of the show's best in my opinion and it will be great to see them back together after 15 years.

Filming started today(?) or yesterday I think and some interesting pics have already leaked on Gallifreybase:
- 60th Anniversary spoilers:
- A couple of photos taken of set filming (probably by a member of the public filming at a distance?) were posted earlier, showing Tennant and Tate standing next to a Tardis-but what seems to be Jodie Whittaker's Tardis exterior not the 10th Doctors?. Also it seems Tennant is wearing a slightly different outfit in this story to his 2005-10 look...so not quite the reunion we are expecting?
Also hearing rumours Bernard Cribbins may be making some sort of appearance? RTD hinted on instagram more announcements may be coming...

Okay now I'm getting excited...Racheal Talalay (who directed all 3 of Peter Capaldi's series finales, and his last episode 'Twice Upon a Time') has been spotted on set, presumebly directing (she's argubaly the best director New Who has had i.m.o)...recently she posted on twitter selfies she'd taken with Peter Capaldi and Matt Lucas recently...not going to jump to conclusions but im getting really interested now

Re: All New Who
New cast addition
https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-features/yasmin-finney-joins-doctor-who-cast
...Well so far it seems like a certain rumour from a few months ago is proving correct
...I really really really hope that leak isn't true...what a great way to celebrate the 60th anniversary by pandering soley to Tennant/series 4 fans
Still, all the recent casting choices will surely rile up the angry viewers moaning about wokeness which will be a lugh at least
https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-features/yasmin-finney-joins-doctor-who-cast
Doctor Who gains its own heartstopper as Yasmin Finney joins cast
Yasmin Finney has joined the cast of Doctor Who playing the character of Rose and is filming scenes that are due to air in 2023 to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary. Currently captivating audiences with her performance as Elle Argent in Heartstoppers, Yasmin is receiving rave reviews across the globe.
Speaking of joining Doctor Who Yasmin says: "If anyone would have told 8 year old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them. This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get Ready.”
Russell T Davies, Showrunner adds: “Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world - and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”
...Well so far it seems like a certain rumour from a few months ago is proving correct
- Potential spoilers-Rumoured Plot leak for the 60th anniversary:
A few months ago there was a rumour/leak going around that Tennant/Tate would star in a trilogy of specials to mark the show's 60th anniversary, with Jodie Whittaker de-regenerating into a older 10th Doctor who encounters a older Donna Noble...a supposed casting call leak also suggested Donna now has a transgender mised race teenager daughter
...I really really really hope that leak isn't true...what a great way to celebrate the 60th anniversary by pandering soley to Tennant/series 4 fans
Still, all the recent casting choices will surely rile up the angry viewers moaning about wokeness which will be a lugh at least

Re: All New Who
{{ I think through inference we can conclude the new, new Who under RTD and indirectly Sony Pictures, is indeed getting a better budget.
- Spoiler:
- The inferences being they cast Neil Patrick Harris in a role as 'the Greatest Enemy Ever" though it looks most likely he will be playing a version of the Celestial Toymaker first seen with the 1st Doctor.
The Celestial toymaker is super powerful being who exists normally in his own realm where he controls, well everything really including reality. The other possibility is he is playing the Valeyard- the amalgamation of the Doctors dark side who is said to have been created between the Doctors 12th and final regeneration - as the greatest enemy the Doctor has, particularly in NuWHo has always been himself. My money is on the Toymaker though as a leaked shot also shows the exterior of a toyshop.
The other hint the budget is going up is RTD is apparently looking to the comics with hints that Beep the Meep is making an appearance from the comics- this is a cute furry little alien that is in fact a violent galaxy conqueror. But it implies a fully cgi character in the main story if so.
But it all points towards an increased budget as neither Harris nor cgi characters come cheap.

Re: All New Who
{{ This has got me excited if it ever happens. Who should replace RTD when he goes for the 2nd time? Famously, the Who showrunner is a big job almost no one wants, as has been proved in the difficulty of finding a showrunner of quality since RTD and Moffat left.
But someone wants to throw their name in the ring and I am all for it.
The person in question is Grant Morrison. You might not know the name (though if you delved into the comic thread you might) as he is primarily a comic book writer- an exceptional one. His resume is quite something, especially in revamping, renewing and giving new leases of life to stuff- see his Animal Man or Doom Patrol runs for example.
But way back early in his career he wrote Who comics.
And has remained a Who fan since and apparently- 'Grant Morrison said that he's always loved Doctor Who, especially Steven Moffat's run writing the series.' Amusingly the article goes on to mention- 'he did not offer his opinion on current showrunner Chris Chibnall's work.' I bet he didnt! If youve nothing good to say best not say anything!
It doesnt surprise me that he is a fan of Moffats writing, they are both quite thematic writers and both write in a layered manner and they are both good at subverting the expectations of the audience.
And it turns out he already pitched stuff when Moffat was in charge, (small bits of which Moffat appears to have used) at that time whilst Morrison had an extensive writing track record he had no tv production experience, something he now does have with running the shows Brave New World and Happy.
Morrisons stuff is generally quite thoughtful, high concept stuff with many layers- anyway here's what he had to say-
"At the start of 2013, I went down to London to pitch a bunch of ideas to Steven Moffat and his team… I'd correctly guessed the new Doctor would be an older man (I speculated on some kind of cross between Pertwee and Peter Cushing oddly enough) and suggested he'd be chalking his racing thoughts on blackboards all the time.
I think there were two potentially great stories out of the five or so I pitched – one was a 'timey-wimey' story designed to work as a high concept Doctor Who feature film and the other a heart-wrenchingly emotive Railway Children episode set in World War 2 – nevertheless, even after a few attempts at refining the first idea, I didn't make the grade. Having now worked at all stages of TV production, I know exactly where I went wrong in emphasising certain aspects of the story over the ones the BBC were keener for to have in foreground.
"One of my stories involved meeting the Doctor as a child, which then happened in a very different way in the episode Listen. I'd also created some new monsters they really liked so while unwilling to commission any scripts from me, the BBC did offer to buy out my baddies! As an offer, it left a lot to be desired and I'd have got more busking Oasis songs for an hour, so I declined and kept the characters in the event I ever got another shot."
"A few years ago, I befriended my personal favourite UK auteur, who also did a few Doctor Who episodes. Following many chats, we ended up with a whole fantasy season of Doctor Who adventures which can only be described as revolutionary! We have big, mad ideas for the Doctor, the Companions, the Daleks, the season arc, the TARDIS and everything else, that not only fit with canon and are blindingly obvious but have never been done before! So there does exist what I can only describe as an ultimate Doctor Who pitch, poised to materialise, awaiting the day Russell Davies tires of the Time Lord!"
I'd love to see a Morrison take on Who- it'd certainly be unlike anything we have seen before. }}
But someone wants to throw their name in the ring and I am all for it.

Re: All New Who
{{ My favourite ever comic writer doing Who would be a dream, but like I say it be quite different I think.
Just checked out the trailers for the two tv shows he is cocreator and producer on - Brave New World- seems to be a loose adaption of the Huxley novel, and Happy- about a degenerate excop who, well think Ill leave this one to the trailer to explain! But one thing Who wouldnt be under Morrison is ever boring or lacking imagination or ideas thats for sure.
Going to watch some eps of both as Ive only ever read his work, never seen how itd translate to the tv medium. Anyone else seen either of these shows?
He also did Doom Patrol as I mentioned earlier- though he has nothing to do directly with the tv series it is heavily based on his run and features characters he created like Crazy Jane (her different personalities all manifest different powers) Danny (who is, well Danny is a sentient street- yup you read that right, he's a sentient street the Doom Patrol HQ is based on, and incidentally he's also a transvestite street) and of course Mr Nobody, possibly my favourite comic book character of all time, his run for President under the slogan 'Nobody for President' touring the US in a bus powered by the bicycle of Hofman- who created LSD took a lot to test it first time then cycled home on his bike and had the worlds first LSD trip, imbuing the bike with the power to trip folk out when near it is a person favourite story line, as is the aptly entitled "The Painting That Ate Paris' introduction the villainous and quite random and of course absurd, Brotherhood of Dada- I did mention Morrison Who would probably be very unique didnt I?)}}

Re: All New Who
{{ Good to see RTD seems to be getting back to more interesting director choices. It seems he has wisely already got Rachel Talalay back onboard with rumour she is shooting one of the 60th episodes (looks like the anniversary will be a 3 parter!) but now we have Chanya Button in the directors chair for another- she has a very solid resume starting out directing and producing in the Globe Theatre, The Bush, and the Tricycle- pretty much the three most prestigious theatres in London, before going onto make her name with short films then producing and directing her own films. She also has a solid tv directing resume.
This will hopefully solve a major issue in the Chibnal era- directors who lack experience or were dependable working directors but not artistic- so we got day time soap directors and the like. And whilst the production values increased in Chibnal era with more expensive cameras and effects work, the talent behind them had too obviously fallen.
Very happy to see this aspect is also being addressed. Hopefully never again in modern Who will we get direction, editing and production like we saw in episodes like Orphan 55. }}

Re: All New Who
{ So after calling Tories, 'murders, bastards, abusers and liars' in the above speech RTD has got himself in another spat involving politics.
This time in a twitter back and forth. Some person with right wing views, homophobic posts got blocked by RTTD on (I think) Instagram. So the said person took to twitter to ask why RTD had blocked him, to which RTD replied "Because you're a Republican cunt.'
This in my view is not a good look for the showrunner of Who, to be fighting with fans inand using that language to do so. My other issue is the wording, had RTD said right-wing, or extremist or something I would be fine with it, I'd still think he shouldnt be engaging like this at all, but it'd understand. But he didnt he used Republican, tarring all republicans as the same as this fellows far right views. And I dont think that helps any sort of debate and if there is no debate then its just two sides shouting abuse at each other.
RTD wont win anyone on the right of politics over with these sort of broad sweeping attacks (including moderate small c conservative Republicans), exemplified I feel by these two vids which sprang up on youtube almost immediately in response to it- the first is called 'Russel T Davies Destroys Bigoted Fan', and the second from the other side entitled, 'RTD Attacks a Doctor Who Fan-No Republicans Allowed'.
This all just throws fuel on a fire thats long been burning out of control in Who fandom, and its not needed or helpful. I doubt the BBC will be too happy about this particular outburst from their showrunner either. }}

Re: All New Who
Sounds like RTD has been captured by the identity politics hysterics on twitter. Well we know he has by his casting choices. he has gone balls deep in woke. Shame. I agree with that guy on the second video Hollywood Scholar.
