All New Who

oh dear as soon as the professionally offended on Twitter got hold of this story it was likely to explode. He made an idiot of himself and then stopped when reprimanded, he wasn't a pervert, just a bit of a tool. I knew a boy who did this as a party trick at school, at the age of 18 I had changed school from an all girl convent school run by French nuns when I was 16 to do A levels at the local grammar, I had no idea about boys. The sight of it was interesting to say the least, it was quite shocking and funny at the same time.

As an adult in that time if he didnt know you dont expose yourself to strangers in your workplace (or anywhere for that matter) then something was seriously wrong with his judgement. }}

Agreed, it was a weird thing to be doing as a grown man. I wonder why he felt the compulsion, maybe he had boundary problems, dunno, definitely something he needed to sort out before he lost his career, it seems like he got help then stopped doing it. Seems a bit harsh that 20 years later he is suffering the consequences. But maybe I am not viewing it as a sexual crime like flashing because he is gay, maybe if he was straight I wouldn't be so forgiving.

I've assumed since the beginning she'd be unlikely to do more than the standard 3 seasons anyway so this wouldn't come as a shock if proven true. Won't be particularly sad to see her leave though, the 13th Doctor hasn't really worked for me, albeit much of the problems stem from the lacklustre scripts rather than Jodie's acting...

I'd feel a bit sorry for whoever is cast as the 14th Doctor though, 2023 would probably be when their first series airs but also marks the 60th anniversary and the BBC will probably want to bring back some of the old doctors/characters...

Not convinced that's true, resting the show after Series 13 until the 50th wouldn't really be much of a rest (there's already 15-18 month gaps between seasons, other popular UK shows sometimes go two or three years between seasons without being cancelled) and bringing back the two previous showrunners with wildly divergent styles to co-write seems a recipe for confusion and dissapointment.

Also seems kinda odd to relaunch a show with a celebratory anniversary episode.

Rather thn trying to rehash the 'glory years' or claw back lost fans (i don't think New Who will ever quite match its series 4-7 popularity again because of the changing TV landscape and it's sheer age as a show after 16 years and 12 seasons can it still be called New Who) I think the show needs a genuinely new and different creative direction with a fresh writer focussed on story quality and maintaining regular release schedule, rather than chasing headlines with twists/plodding backstory/reusing old characters.

It says soemthing when even something as canon breaking as the timeless child revelation largely bored me rather than annoyed me...i just want to feel something when I watch the show, Moffat and RTD has soaring highs and crushing lows but at least it was exciting and experimental, Chibnall Who is just...dull.

Another soft reboot like 'Rose' or 'The 11th Hour' with a dependable but surprising character actor in their 40's would do the trick i.m.o.

Adrian Lester would be a good choice i.m.o.

Moffat and RTD for all their stregths as writers both got burnt out by the role and I doubt they personally feel like that have much more to share creatively as writers on the show.

Bringing either of them back as a executive producer as a pair of guiding hands/advisory role could be a good idea though, sorta like how Phillip Hincliffe and John Nathan Turner were mentored/advised by earlier writers in the Classic series.

the big news I suppose is that this series is one long story apparently, which hasnt been tried since trial of a Timelord and the 6th Doctors final series.
Oh and their much touted mystery panel guest- specualted to be everyone form tennant to Carol-Anne Ford turned out to be some bloke off Game of Thrones Ive never heard of, Jacob Anderson, so not sure what the fuss was about. Weve had lots of Game of Thrones actors in Who over the years including Maisie Williams, so why they bigged this up as some sort of event not sure. He appears t be playing a Tiem Lord of some sort, mentions getting to fly jodies TARDIS and that he has his own ship. }}

Long story... Can we hope for some kind of consistent writing perhaps? Just a little bit? Some kind of personality in the characters?

And yeah this is Chibnal's last chance to turn this around and give us something decent and not filled with exposition, lecturing, clumsy virtue signalling and to actually give the Doctor and companions some actual personalities and stuff to do other than be yes men to how wonderful 13 is.
Not sure I hold out much hope but perhaps circumstances, forcing a shorter 8 episode series and it all being one long storyline might help, maybe, hopefully, well theres at least a chance. }}

ooooh its Greyworm from GOT, I like him. but why they couldnt have brought Rigsy back is anyones guess. Actually I think that Rigsy is my favourite character in the whole Capaldi/Jodie era.

{{ To be honest the main thing I feel is sadness Not that they are going, but that they have done so much damage already before doing so. Sad that the first female Doctor was miscast and badly written for. Sad that a show that was for everyone turned against half its own audience to score cheap points against them. Sad that Chibnal the worst writer of the modern era and arguably all of Who got permission to rewrite the Doctor and give them an origins story (still hope that will be retconned before he goes).

I do find the timing somewhat odd, especially of Chibbers going. He is leaving right before the 60th would be.
This is good in that it means he wont be writing it. But bad in that we will go into a 60th special, if there now is one even, with no head writer and no Doctor. And even if we get a new Doctor at end of Jodies run in the regen scene its highly likely the new actors first episode will be the special- which is asking a lot of them and the special.
Perhaps given the apparent fear of writing xmas specials Chibbers has shown we shouldn't be suprised he'd bail right before the 60th special

In the meantime we still have an eight part single story series to get through and three specials before the happy day they leave. Given the damage done in the first two series this is either a chance to mend some bridges and retcon some of the most contentious unwanted changes before they depart, or to double down on them and leave the whole sorry mess for future showrunners to mend. Which will Chibbers do? }}

agree about our points Petty, and I hope they don't rush finding the new Doctor and go down the Chibbers route because the wrong Doctor now could spell its end. I am afraid of their box ticking. I want them to go back to the Doctor looking like straight white middle aged bloke/alien, which in these times sounds controversial, that's how far down the rabbit hole we have gone. I want them to choose well and get back to sci-fi adventures. On the other hand I wouldn't mind Paterson Joseph being the Doctor, he was a great Marquis de Carabas and he was in Timeless as well, which is a timey-wimey TV show.

Haven't seen timless in ages, so I don't think I remember him... , I'd like to see a female Doctor done right before it's over. And it would be interesting to see if Jodie  could be a proper Doctor, or if Chibnal is holding her back.

Not that I'd mind a "oooops, it was aaaall a dream!" This will be a difficult season to watch... Again...
