{{ The BBC in their long list of recent bits of series 11 theyve been putting up to try to make up for lack of a trailer or teaser so far, have run out of series 11 and now onto the New Year special.
And it occured its a good one for comparison, every new Doctor has to have that first episode with the Daleks. Heres how they went.

{{ Who news time! And depending on your point of view its either good news or bad news (its bad news   ). Oh and the latest rumour mill is a doozy!

'Doctor Who seasons 13 and 14 confirmed! On Tuesday, HBO announced that a boatload of fancy new content is coming to HBO Max, and this just so happens to include two new seasons of Doctor Who...With season 12 already planned to air some time next year, this means seasons 13 and 14 are guaranteed to follow'- Tor.com

Now it doesnt say it will be Chibbers and Whittaker for all of them, but it probably will.  

And onto news of when we might be getting the next series, nothing official but a tv magazine covering holiday tv specials seems to have given the game away-

'Since it was a section of the magazine covering holiday television specials, one could also surmise that Doctor Who Series 12 will likely premiere on New Year’s Day.'

I would hazard this explains the longer filming as they have decided, seemingly quite late in the day, to kick off the series on a special and may well have, or currently are, filming the special for the end of next year too.
If that is to be the formula going forward of this sort of lengthy production times for a series then first there is no excuse it shouldn't look amazing, blockbuster films get made in less time, and secondly we better settle in as to get to the end of a 14th series is going to take at least 5 years!

ehn, overwrought acting. And too cherubic a face.

{{ Hehad some good stuff in his run too in fairness.
For an understated performance in the role I highly recommend Human Nature/Family of Blood. Great performnces all round, really, superb villain turn, great support cast and Tennant on some of his best form. Good halloween story too.}}

Ah man probably his best episode. It's interesting too when he went for the darker stuff, like in Waters of Mars. I didn't love the episode, but it was interesting nonetheless, such a downer.

{{ Theres an odd trend with Tennant in that often his best stuff as 10 either doesn't heavily feature his version of the Doctor like Human Nature/Family of Blood, or he is barely in at all like Blink/Turn Left. Even Waters of Mars which is all about his Doctor, its his Doctor when pushed too far and has lost the plot,its not his 'weekly' version of 10. Not sure thats a coincidence! }}

Leave our boy alone!!

I do find it rather ironic the 10th doctor is seen as the most human/straightforwardly heroic doctor by many, I always found him to come across as a tad self righteous/arrogant, and still find the idea of the Doctor being a romantic hero ludicrous, least of all with the increasingly smug and bratty Rose Tyler in Series 2.

My own opinions aside I think the tennant rumour is a load of twaddle, can't see him returning again this soon nor do I think he'd do so in a way that demeans his own doctor's character traits, hasnt he just had another kid as well?

I doubt the rumour too, but what it has going for it is noone anymore thinks its out of the realms of possibility under Chibbers, telling in itself, and that Tennant is mates with both Chibbers and Whittaker having worked together for 3 serie son Broadchurch, explaining why he might agree where others did not.
But overall I think its unlikely to be true. And I hope very much its not true. }}

{{ Hats off to the BBC for once, or the Official Doctor Who youtube channel at least.
They just put up a vid called "Best of the 12th Doctor" and its 53 minutes of Capaldi goodness (though to do the title and the man justice you'd really have to show the whole run!) but still, given we are approaching a new series with our new female Doctor I didnt expect them to give us a nearly hour long reminder of how much better the last male one was!
Haven't watched it all yet, but given length going to assume its completely spoilery for his entire run.

{{ Well this is an interesting turn up for the books.
Yesterday the BBC announced a trailer for a trailer of the new series!
Now word was that the trailer was to drop as part of Children in Need.
But its not, instead it seems its dropping on the 23rd of November.
Why the change?
Well rumour has it Chibbers is pissed at Jodie for doing this-



And Chibbers apparently doesnt want this taking away on the night from his big Who trailer arriving. So in a peak of churlishness he has pulled the trailer from Children in Need.
Oh and turns out Jodie can't sing either! }}

{{ Found this interesting, some quotes from Moffat regarding his finale episode- the xmas special- which was never meant to be.

'"There was one big glitch, which was Christmas. I was going to leave at the end of series 10 – I had my finale planned and what I wanted to do with it. I had a good notion of that. Then I learned at a drinks event somewhere that Chris didn't want to start with a Christmas, so at that point they were going to skip Christmas.
Doctor Who would've lost that slot if we hadn't [done a special] because Christmas Day is now so rammed. So I said, probably four glasses of red wine in, 'I'll do Christmas!' and then had to persuade Peter [Capaldi] that's how we were leaving. Then I had to work out how you could get mortally injured in one episode and spend an hour regenerating on Christmas Day, which I hopefully have done!"

And then what does Chibbers do after chickening out of that xmas special?- he goes and freely gives up the xmas slot Mofffat went to such lenghts to retain as soon as he gets the job and chickens out another xmas special!! }}

I don't quite follow the drama there Petty. The idea is that this song steps on the toes of the other thing?

You'd think the two spots would reinforce each other.

{{ Its an odd one to be sure. Seems he isnt happy that she is doing it as herself, feeling that somehow undermines it if she then later appears in a trailer as the Doctor.

Its odd also because prior to this Who has a long history of doing stuff for Childrens in Need- sometimes its just the leads turning up to help fund raise, or its a clip from an upcoming episode, or a trailer for a new series, or on a few cases if the timing works out entire minisodes written especially for it.

But it seems the much reported on, and even more specualted on behind the scenes dust up of a few months ago (which led the hopeful to think Chibbers and/or Jodie were leaving the show) was in fact a falling out between lead and showrunner over this! }}

{{ Who news- the names of the writers for this series have finally been released.

Chibbers will be writing 4 of the 10 series episodes plus a special.  

Ed Hine returns from last series (It Takes You Away- the one with the sentient universe in the guise of a talking frog and the utter git of a white single father- but it still had the most imagination of any episode last series, though its not a high bar).

Pete Mcteigh returns for an episode, he wrote Kerblaam last series, the one in which the Doctor sides with big corporations over the little people....  

Vinay Patel returns too, he was responsible for Demons of the Punjab last series which is enough of a crime in its own right, the Doctor Who story that has no requirement for the Doctor or any who.  

Nina Metiver who was last series script editor has written an episode too this year- your script editor having to pitch in with a script is either because she has something brilliant, or because somthing has gone horribly wrong and they needed a script replacement at short notice. I know which I think it is...

Maxine Alderton is up next, who has previously written scripts for childrens show The Worst Witch, and soap opera Emmerdale. So ater last series succes story in getting writers with absolutely no genre experience or Who experience they decided they'd struck gold then?!    

Charlene James, a playwright and script writer who has won a few awards- that sounds promising    
Charlene was awarded the Alfred Fagon Award, for best new play at the National Theatre for Cuttin' It, a play focusing on Female Genital Mutilation - she sounds perfect for Doctor Who!
