Stop falling for fan-made trailers!
...It gets me excited thinking a real one dropped. In this new one all the actor's faces are digitally pasted onto the bodies of actors from previous Dune films, and is a hodge-podge of footage from several movies.

So I'm not up on hip-hop classics. But I have to admit that one's pretty catchy.

Re: Future releases [2]
Have to go with Forest I hate it when films pinch music from somewhere else, even if its a remix. Too lazy or too mean to think up an original score. Puts me off a film if Ive got some hip hop or dance tune running round my head, cant take the film seriously.

But it wasn't even a film, it was a fan-made fake trailer for a film.

But Fremen should be in robes. And stillsuits shouldn't look so mechanical/robotic. It's not too bad but I think somewhat in the wrong direction. But people in the desert shouldn't have their heads uncovered so much! ROBES!

{{ Getting a bad feeLing about Dune, dont like the so caLled still suits, look like armour and now this. Now I am all for good roles for women, I just wish theyd write original good roles for women instead of continuily nicking male roles and making them women, or expanding exisiting roles played by women beyond their original narrative need. Leave stuff alone and write your own stuff for women!! }}

I don't see how the role of the Lady Jessica can possibly be expanded. She's already the key to the whole book and almost as much a point of view character as Paul. Maybe more, come to think of it.

{{ Apprently she wil also train Paul in martial arts! Even though he has a tutor for that already!
But I agree completely, the idea Dune is short of female presence is weird- the Bene Gesserit are super powerful and influencial and an all female organisation, Jessica is hugely crucial to the plot and to Paul. Chani is central to events, as too is the recorder of the tales the Emperors daughter. There are no shortage of important, well written, strong female characters. Changing males to female and upping female roles just seems like annoying political agenda driven pandering for no good reason than to seem worthy. }}

If they want to change Liet to female, well, fine. But there's plenty of strong females that I don't see a need to strengthen them.

Re: Future releases [2]
Talking about the Lynch film? It started off okay but then went sideways. People may say it's because he didn't have control over the final edit, but there were some very direct choices he made that were utterly wrong and had nothing to do with editing. The worst was the technologically enhanced Voice; but the skin diseased Baron added nothing. And having Paul magically make it rain at the end was completely counter to the whole reason Herbert wrote the book to begin with; demonstrating that Lynch hadn't got the least understanding of the underlying themes. But that can be fixed with 10 seconds of editing.
Other than that, it looked good before funding ran out.

Re: Future releases [2]
{{ Lynch Dune is a strange one. Dune is probably for me his oddest film, not oddest in the oh thats weird and Lynchy way, but odd in how he seems to have aproached it, with some of the choices you mention Halfy.
And I find it odd because he can just direct, by which I mean he can bring out a story superbly- such as the Straight Road or his superb Elephant Man. Neither of which were his own stories or scripts yet he brings them to life beautifully.
With Dune it falls somewhere between his two styles- it is in parts a beautiful adaptation, in particualrly visually. But in many other parts it veers more towards the sort of material he produces based on his own works. As a result its neithe rquit eone thingor another- itsnot a full Lynchy style film, but nor is it a pure adaptation either.
Regarding the ending I understand that was astudio mandate not in the original script as they wanted a conclusion in that one film and an unbeat ending.
How much the studio interfered is amatter of rumour and legend- but it was enough that it made Lynch swear he would never do another big studio film again- and he never has.}}

Re: Future releases [2]
Four chuffing hours ? Might be do-able at home but in the cinema ? The thing with Dune for me is, its so Goddam weird any more weirdness I could probably take & still ask for more, its that kind of weirdness it practically becomes addictive.

Re: Future releases [2]
I wouldn't call the books weird. The films came across weird due to a few too many Lynchisms creeping in there. Most directors would try to mute any weirdness with familiarity, but that's not his instinct.

I find the Lynch version very magical and haunting. I love the casting as well. Francesca Annis was extremely beautiful and Kyle was a charismatic perfect Paul.

Re: Future releases [2]
I like a lot of that version, but there's too many wrongheaded moves for me to not be annoyed with it. Many of the earlier sections were dead on right - if only it would have continued that way. Along with your casting choices I also thought Sting was perfect as Feyd. But everything about the Baron was wrong, and that was the beginning of the end of my initial love affair when first watching it.

oh I have seen her before in another film, she is fab. It was in a film called Wolfhound, I really enjoyed it. I think she must be their version of Cate Blanchett.

Oo...found that on netflix, she's quite young in that. While searching for that I found the almost totally unrelated this:
I think the trailer muddles the comic message somewhat, but other excerpts I saw made it look pretty fun. Netflix is on a tear with new programming.

Re: Future releases [2]
Thoughts?
Mine is that dude doesn't look like Hari Seldon.
Nothing here is instantly familiar to me. If they wanted to make fans sit up and say "That's it!" they would have started (or ended) the trailer with an old man looking up from a wheelchair and saying quietly "I am Hari Seldon". If the actor was right that would be all that they'd need: jump to some space battle and a shredded section of Trantor. The fact that they couldn't home in on iconic moments tells me they don't get it. I understand it's a TV series that won't follow the book exactly, but there's got to be anchor points or they shouldn't be using the name "Foundation".
