Going to be totally honest, not really excited (certainly curious) by this news, loved Capaldi's Doctor and stories so much I'm just sad its ending rather than glad change is coming, my initial thought was ''Excellent...this narrows the gap till Capaldi might sign up for Big Finish'' rather than ''ooh new Doctor how interesting!'', certainly keen to see whether Chibnall will cast someone bold and surprising rather than safe and generic.

I actually quite in favour of a female Doctor.

The three names I've seen rumoured the most are:

Luke Treadway

Kris Marshall Neutral

Jodie Whitaker scratch

{{{ The one thing I am really hoping is that its not an attempt to recreate the 10/Rose dynamic- apart from it being my least favourite dynamic or style of Doctor in the entire 50 years of the show I dont think the show benefits from trying to recreate the past. Its literally a step backwards.

This could either be utterly brilliant, or a failed experiment that kills the show, already seeing lots of negative reaction from fans who won't be watching.

Honestly, I'm mainly glad this will probably rule out another 10/Rose type partnership.

And Moffat wasn't the first Who writer to do transgender regeneration, in the two-part 8th Doctor Novel Interference (very good btw) there's a supporting character called http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/I.M._Foreman who regenerates into a woman in his 13th Incarnation.

{{{ Its definitely the right thing to do in my view- even if it doesn't work out- you never know till you try and demand to try was never going to go away- and as I mentioned before the base template for the Doctor was set with Hartnell- stick to that and then let the actor bring their take to the performance- same as for the males really- and no reason it shouldn't work. And the show is still around 54 years later because it can change and yet stay the same- that's its genius. }}}
