i'd rather watch it though than be given spoilers from facebook. Thanx Zuckerburg.

can't find any good example of her acting.  From a Broadchurch interview it's clear that was pretty much a downer role.  She played opposite Peter O'Toole in "Venus", but...um...I don't think that really is a proper example of what she'll bring to the role either.

The Venus interview comes closer to shedding light on the lighter style she'd play as the Doctor, but she was too freakishly young to get a handle on her mature style.

i've only seen her i broadchurch, and that was rather depressing, so i don't know what to expect.

I only hope the fact she is a woman is largely ignored in the way she plays it. No feminist type dialogue and that kind of thing. Just a new Doctor who happens to be female. And I don't see this as Political Correctnesss. To me it's just necessary and exciting and a worry. The less she makes of being a woman and just her version of the Doctor, the better. And let's hope the Mistress returns. A new Mistress.

Actually, Ol' Anon was the first to depict a female (in form) Doctor and a female (in form) Mistress. I cite Figg-Doctor and Amarie-Mistress. So a female (in form) Doctor is not all that shocking. Just saying.

Of course, Ol' Anon's Doctor and Mistress were well formed. That goes without saying.

as long as there are no references to shoes, sonic screwdriver envy, or 'does my bum look fat in this TARDIS' jokes, I will be cool with it, but Moffat has gone so it should be a sexist free zone.

also, i hope, as Orwell mentioned, that we don't get too caught up like... "yes i am a woman" sort of vibe throughout the seasons. like ok.. get over it during the first episode but after then just leave it. yes, the doctor is female, but not make such a point of it. like .. get over it.. that is such a bad sentence.. but i don't want this, OMG THE DOCTOR IS A WOMAN to be the main focus the rest of the series.. but i believe they will handle it well.. i guess.. just gotta have faith. that she is written like a full person, a character that just happens to be female. not... you know typical hollywood female lead sort of thing.

She needs to be quirky, but they need to have already written in the quirks with the idea the Dr is male, then just slipped her in. Like what was done for Alien, write for a man then stick a woman in the part.

As to how to write her- write her as the Doctor simple as that. Use the exact same method Moffat did when he first wrote for 11 and then for 12- right the first story as generic Doctor template- then see what the actor does with it then reincorporate that back into the writing.
The perfect way to handle it was when Moffat had the General regenerate from a white man into a black woman, she got up, remarked on the fact her last generation was the only time she had been a man, cracked a joke about male ego and then got right on with the job and everyone around her treated her as exactly the same person as they had done when she was a white man. No fuss- its normal for Time Lords why would there be a fuss? }}}

As to Ol' Anon drawing the Doctor's male Companion crudely,  I thought the Companion was crude and that's how Ol' Anon described him... a perspective thing? Actually, I seem to remember that later he was a Sean Connery type, and what Scottish Companion would ever complain about being a handsome Irishman?

Whilst we are on the subject of female timelords, Georgia Moffet will reprise the role of 'The Doctors Daughter' in a series of audio dramas from Big Finish:

(Apparently Big Finish weren't intending to release the news this early, so it looks like someone will be in trouble...)

I'm very unlikely to get these myself, as I found the character rather thin and generic in her sole appearance (in a rather average story) all those years ago (haven't watched it years so I can barely remember it) and it's hard to gauge where they could take the character based on such a small amount of material.

Other than the continuity hook I think there might be an interesting angle here-Jenny after the episode ended was more or less brand new to the universe with some of the Doctors genetic flaws but none of his experience or history, she would be free to explore the universe with no previous continuity or fears to worry about, this would act as a interesting parallel to the Doctor.

On the other hand Big Finish have the long running female lead series 'Bernice Summerfield' (Bernice, or 'Benny' was a long running companion in the Virgin New Adventures opposite the 7th Doctor, she later got her own spinoff novels and a BF audio series, she's also appeared in a few stories with the 8th Doctor and a novel with the 12th) and The Diary Of River Song boxsets, it's hard to say what, if anything they can do with Jenny in these stories that they can't with River/Benny.

Not entirely convinced there will be a large enough audience for this to be financially viable, though it's always exciting to see BF explore new areas of the Doctor Who universe.
