Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
Watched the Legend of the Shadowless Sword on DVD last night; Korea's first attempt at a historical epic. Queued it up after Chris posted a trailer.
It was fun but imperfect, the Korean film industry's first attempt at a historical epic. If you like hot Asian chicks totally kicking butt, you'll be happy. A little bit of silliness when any true warrior who's killed blows up (from excessive inner spirit or something I suppose), but I'll forgive it on account of the badass young ladies. Not really sure either of those aspects are actually historical.

Good fun film to watch. 7\10
Saw GOTG2 a couple days ago myself. A pretty fun time all in all. Not quite as fresh and surprising as the first movie (would've had to do something radical to recapture that) but otherwise comparable in quality I think.
NB congrats on your 7000th post, chris!

My view on Alien Covenant.

I feel I ought to go see it, but will I be at all lost since I gave Prometheus a pass?

Almost forgot about this film. Haven't seen it in years. Always made me laugh. Quite rude and not everyone's cup of tea.

{{Enjoyed this Chinese short-film- Chinese sensibilities but with western cinema influences (I got early Speilberg Close Encounter era vibes from parts of it)}}

Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
Well I watched Alien Covenant. I wasn't blown away or gripped, I didn't sit on the end of my seat, I fidgeted & in fact it meandered. The pace was walking speed & any action was mostly people acting hysterically rushed & shouting rapidly so you couldn't understand a word they said.
- Spoiler:
- It focused on the 'cyborg' mostly. one called David one called Walter.....fly away David, fly away Walter....sounds like a childs nursery song. The Engineers were seen briefly & we see they are a town full of people like anyone else. dressed as peasants, men & women. The Alien played 2nd fiddle to the story really & the 1st time I saw it it resembled a creature from Pans Labyrinth & I looked for Del Toro's name in the credits.If the name 'Ridley Scott' had not appeared I would have guessed someone else had a crack at this that's how lightweight it felt, flimsy too. I wasn't moved or gripped. I didn't give a flying feck about any of them. It was the same old lines, one on one fight with Alien at the end, back into cryo sleep, yawn. Billy Crudup's character was a wimpy person, emotional & no self confidence at all & couldn't lead a guinea pig round a garden, ( & believe me guinea pigs follow anyone!) He was made Captain early on in the film & it was a wasted vote. As per usual it took a 'strong woman' to shine a light, yawn again. Fassbender played good cyborg, bad cyborg & it didn't work for me. He acted as if he was as bored playing it as I was watching it. Now we are led to believe it was all the cyborgs doing, the unleashing of the Aliens...yawn !

I felt it didn't live up to its promise. But kick-ass fighting chicks of the asian persuasion always make me happy regardless. (was that totally non-pc?)

cant remember the last time I really enjoyed a film. It was probably Gravity. that was stupendous. its the only space film where I felt physically sick because it felt real, like you are actually in space.

I really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, that's pretty recent. Perhaps you are forgetting something you liked Figgs?
