{{Well the UK is the 'Mother of all Parliaments'- you lot tweaked stuff, changed stuff around, altered the names of stuff, and over time developed your own procedures, but at absolute basics its the same template based on the same ideals and history.
Magna Carta was long before there was a US, as was the Declaration of Arbroath and the Scottish Enlightenment- but you don't have a US constitution without them.
Its a bit like the major western religions, all Abrahamic at root no matter how much they divide in the present or future, they still share that same basic template. In religious terms that one God, prophets, angels, heaven ect in politics its two chambers, a PM/President and a Head of State as the basic template, with rules based on the principles of Magna Carter ect}}}.
Australia has a Brittish-like parliament, but our country has a Commwealth Government but also runs as a confederation of States like America, the idea borrowed from America when Australia formed Federation.
We're hybrids, you know.

Comedian David Chavez at a Trump rally in Arizona:
"I've heard people say: I don't know who to choose: Trump or Hillary. Even Bill Clinton chose other women. So you should, too," Chavez said to laughter and applause.
I don't think this country will ever get tired of Clinton jokes...

Re: US General Election 2016
A great piece by Richard North Patterson. It was supposedly about calculating the final vote in the electoral college, but he had some things to get off his chest first. Whether you agree with him or not, he certainly has a way with words. I've picked out some of the best.

That Hillary Clinton also has real problems is evinced by her own unfavorable rating. But this is after a quarter-century of pummeling — everyone inclined to dislike Clinton already does.
By comparison, Trump’s capacity to appall suggests truly impressive growth potential.
---
... from June to November the Clinton campaign will assault persuadable voters with evidence of Trump’s narcissism, vulgarity, ignorance and instability ... Their biggest challenge is winnowing print, video and tweets for the most repellent moments in an infinity of repulsiveness. This requires a constant state of readiness — when it comes to providing fresh examples of odiousness and vapidity Trump, like rust, never sleeps.
...
He carried the Republican primaries — where there is a market for this sort of thing — by trashing Hispanics, Muslims and, with the zeal of a dedicated misogynist, women. But among the larger electorate this is a very bad idea.
...
After losing in 2012, the Republican party put out a report calling for an outreach to women, Hispanics and the young. Trump obviously read the memo backwards.
...
the GOP has become that special place where sanity goes to die.
...
A word of warning. The one way to mess this up is by not voting in November. The electoral college may be a cumbersome beast, but it still needs feeding.

Yup. Trump's had a ton of publicity but most voters don't really start paying attention to the campaign until after Labor Day. They may have heard about Trump being offensive but a lot of them won't have heard much firsthand. Whereas Clinton's been dragged through the mud so many times there's not really anything new to say, despite attempts to make Benghazi or the e-mail thing stick.
I would say something similar about Bernie, actually. Not that he's spouting off insults and degrading comments on the regular like Trump, but that his favorables would take a huge hit if he were to become the nominee. So far the GOP has gone out of their way to make positive-ish comments about Bernie because they want to bog Hillary down in the primary (which is a legit strategy, I'm not criticizing them for being savvy). But were Bernie to win, the gloves would obviously come off and we'd be hearing non-stop about taxes going up, about subsidizing the "lazy" or "undeserving", about his economic plans not adding up, about him being a self-described socialist, etc. But a vocal minority of Bernie supporters seem convinced that people would fall over themselves to vote for him in the general, even though the Democratic primary has actually had fairly low turnout and Bernie is trailing by about three million votes.
Re: US General Election 2016
As for predicting the electoral college totals, most states have been fairly stable in the EC and voters are increasingly loyal to the party nominee. The big question mark is whether Trump will alienate enough Republicans and Republican-leaning independents that we see some lighter red states flip. But other than that possibility (a more successful Gary Johnson candidacy?), which isn't one I'd put money on, this is gonna be battled out in the swing states like always. Democrats have a much smaller hill to climb here, though. You could give Hillary just the states Kerry won in 2004 (who stayed blue despite the fever pitch of War on Terror patriotism and/or fearmongering) plus Nevada, New Mexico, and Colorado (which all went for Obama twice, but the Hispanic vote is likely to keep 'em out of Trump's hands regardless) and she would win. Trump could take Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana and he would still lose in this scenario. Keep in mind that all of those states I just mentioned voted for Obama in 2008, and all but North Carolina and Indiana went for him again in 2012.

Re: US General Election 2016
Seems Clinton's biggest fault was standing by her man. Couples who stick together, forgive, roll with the blows but at the end still remain solid are... Not modern enough? Quit when the going gets tough, even if, deep down, you're compatible? Will Trump need a new trophy wife when he becomes President - and a new wig? (Surely he can afford both!)

Re: US General Election 2016
That is somewhat astounding. But is Clinton driving Trump or Trump driving Clinton? Or a third factor driving both?

I'm guessing 3rd factor (common cause) plays at least a part, and that factor may actually be internal to the poll. That correlation looks a bit too tidy to me. Here's one for about the same time period that looks more like the proper mess I'd expect.

That was pre-ordained and part of anyone's calculations. Just because they can elect a governor Schwartzenegger....um...just because they could elect a governor Reagan....ah...okay. Maybe it wasn't so obvious.

{{{{He is coming to Scotland, to open one of his golf courses, and he has chosen to do so on the same day the European referendum result is acknowledged- if he was a normal politician I would say he did so to keep a low key on a big news day, but as its Trump I assume his motivation is to be a bigger news story than even the referendum result, and out Trump it}}}

Re: US General Election 2016
Is Trump a crazy Fascist? 'Crazy'? 'Fascist?'? Whoops... Sorry for the tautology. Clinton looking better by the day, strange to say, and maybe she would make a strong President after all. Clinton uses teleprompters worked out with her team presumably. She males measured comments, and is now telling it as it is about Trump. About time. With Trump, it's all in his head, his memory; no doubt his mind is like those he admires most, the leaders of Russia and North Korea. Trump the Great Leader! My gawd....

Trump isn't a fascist. He does seem to be unable to control his ego (and his sensitivity to slights, real or perceived) though.

Rascist, Sexist, believer in individuals of greatness telling folk what to do, believes the economically successful should rule... None of this matches too well with the Communist, Socialist, Anarchist or Liberal political philosophies. What's left? I concede Trump is not a political Fascist, his knowledge of politics and political science is clearly close to zilch for a start, but he exhibits all the attributes of a natural born Fascist. I find him a contemptible and scary individual. Someone should ask if what his view of Hitler was. Another great and populist leader with a thin skin who hated the political system and players of his time and enlisted the support of folk who wanted a leader to lead them (the Aryans) out of the (perceived) wilderness. Hitler, of course, is not so popular nowadays...
