Have you checked out 'Orphan Black' yet, Figgy? I love Orphan Black, it's got a little bit of everything. I wish Who would take notes, especially on how to make believable characters.

(It gets a bit brutal at times, but you watch GoT so you'll be fine.)

And you shouldn't have to go through life without having met Felix Dawkins.

I have seen some of Orphan Black a couple of episodes when I was in the UK but it isn't on here and I might try to find a box set on Amazon, and yeah it was great stuff, I love her campy brother. she is an amazing actress, her characters are all so different.

Don't know if you saw this but this has the pizzazz that I am looking for in Who if it was mixed with Orphan Black and a bit of Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

If that was a Dr. Who plot I would say that it was poorly written!

Technically the short was well-made, but it was too frenetic and light on dialogue to make sense.

Ive seen that "short" before & I really liked it, I think the Russians do create many films like this & sometimes the less said the better the film. A dialogue isn't needed here, I got all I needed in the short span of time. Any longer & it would have needed a good deal of explaining. I love the Russian films..."Day Watch, Night Watch ( a 3rd that hasn't been made ) Russian Arc, a version I saw of "Peter & the Wolf". Their animatics, are the best Ive seen outside USA. I think I agree that the framework would be a good idea for a "Who" story, just needs a little padding out

{{Incidentally that Children in Need clip vid from the xmas ep is a perfect example for me of Who's current audience- if you look at the comments section it's 99% negative, hostile and nasty- if you look at likes and dislikes its the other way round with currently 2789 liking and 254 dislikes. Or about 10% of the audience hate Moffat. This is about the same ratio you see on big Who forums like Gallifrey Base in the comments section- where the majority of the comments are negative but the votes out of ten for an episode at the top of the page consistently show the vast majority rarely rate an ep below an 8. }}

I agree about the Russians, they make very magical films and dialogue is not needed to understand the short. its a taster made to make you wonder why this is happening and what comes next, what is the box and who is the child. It has the right balance of ingredients to make you want to know more, well it did me at any rate. The thing I am missing in Who is the magic and the mystery. I hope Chibnall will inject some much needed freshness some new characters and get away from the back slapping self referential stuff. but this is just my opinion and statistics prove me wrong by all accounts.

It did sound a bit doctorered ( ) to me. Then again, Who with laughter plastered on top would sound weird anyhow, since we're not used to it.

"The Doctor" is just a name, a promise he made to himself at some point in his life. We've seen him strip away the title before, when he fought the Time War. This...being...this Time Lord we see when he drops the shroud of "The Doctor" is far more frightening than the Valeyard. This is the original creature, hidden under the bow ties and silly scarfs and goofy sunglasses. This is the snarling ancient entity of immense power and influence. This is the thing that stood as reality crumbled away and the universe ended and "it" just watched. "It" watched the birth of all things, stars fizzle out like water droplets on a frying pan, and entire civilizations fade from the memory of all life forms.

This is what's lurking under the surface of our silly old man. This is why the Daleks, the Cybermen and all other hostile civilizations either want to try and destroy him or flee in terror, screaming pleas of mercy for their very souls.

It's in the title of the show, isn't it. "Doctor Who?"

I did like how Robert Charles summed up The Doctor, & I remember watching that episode. If the Dr spoke to me like that Id ballywell jump to it, those eyes can freeze you dead.

What I found interesting is that contrary to the popular figure of all powerful Moffat we hear here how he still has to pitch ideas first, and not always successfully.
Secondly there is already a sort of writers room Chibnal style in existence in that the outline for story and character ideas is worked out by Moffat, Nick and the two other script editors (who I note are both women, so no signs there of Moffats alleged hatred of womankind!) so there are four of them minimum pitching and discussing ideas}}}
