{{Should be fine Figg- most annoying thing can happen is if you get a nasty pop up that locks your browser and tells you you have a virus and to pay them money to fix it- if that ever happens just hold ctrl/shift/esc and your task manager will come up, make sure its on the 'processes' tab (should be by default) find your browser on the list-should be near the top, right click on it and 'end task'- that will shut it down and you can reopen- if your browser tries to reopen the same pages either just keep repeating till it doesn't- or be quick and close those tabs before they load- but thats an absolute worst case scenario there- more likely youll just get a pop up for online gambling or something you need to close down}}

Well crap. So much for getting a rest from the Moffat tirades!

Re: All New Who
well.... the worst pop ups were a couple of bouncing boobies.
- Spoiler:
- it was harmless enough. thought the first half was ok, though very slow and stilted in places towards the middle it dragged with the romance thing. .felt like it was winding down.. slower and slower... Nardole not as bad as expected. so overall, ok. not as Moffaty as I expected, which was odd because Moffat is generally crap with romance and 'feelings' and he is better with fast paced timey wimey stylish stuff, but this was neither fish nor fowl. overall not very Christmassy either. but I preferred this to anything with River Song in it so that's a plus.

Re: All New Who
- xmas:
- That was a cute little episode. Helps that I am fond of the good old Superman with Christopher Reeve. This was not what I expected from the trailer, luckily. Nardole was good, was worried he'd be a human version of Strax(?). It was good to see him was the Already Established Companion With Knowledge of Many Things Dr.Who Related And Fairly Competent As Well.
Clearly Bill will be the one with all the annoying questions, if the trailer is anything to go by. Time will tell.
Not overly pleased at the very last bit with Nardole talking veeery sloowly and not using biiig words, doing everything but crouching down to eye-level. But it's the xmans ep, so I can forgive. Maybe.

{{Amarie- I wasn't bothered by Nardole's bit at the end, but I did think it was unnecessary as I felt the more understated speech by the Doctor was enough. But overall an episode with a lot of heart and a lot of fun.

Think my favourite two lines are both from Nardole, t
- Spoiler:
- he sheer delight when he spots the kids toy and exclaims "Oooh! Elephant!" theres something in that delivery cracked me up both times, and at the end when the Doctor has pressed all the buttons and is crashing the ship right at New York and Nardole is being half strangled and everything is fire and explosions, "I know you miss her- but couldn't you just write a poem?" its perfectly timed.
Neither is exactly the cleverest or wittiest bit of word play in it (for that I'd go for the exchange when the Ghost returns as Grant a little damp after rescuing some children, "You're a bit wet"/"I prefer mild-mannered." and I loved the Doctor's "Yeah, I brought snacks...mark of a pro.") But for some reaosn its those tow lines of Nardole that make me laugh out loud the most. I think Im going to like Nardole- hes not human thats a plus as a companion in NuWho, he knows about space, and aliens, he is capable of flying the TARDIS (and apparently ruling Constantinople for a short period in the 12th Century) yet has a childish delight in childish things- the hiding behind an innocent act reminds a little of the 2nd Doctor in fact.

{{Didn't you watch the episode Figg?
Viewing figures are healthy- almost identical to last years in fact which is good as almost everything else lost viewers. Who was the 7th most watched show on xmas day across all channels- and was only beaten by the usual mix of reality shows (strictly and Bake-off) and soaps (Eastenders and Corrie). With th eonly drama to score higher on the day than it being Call the Midwife.
It was also one of Who's toughest slots on xmas day in terms of competition as ITV put another top soap, one enjoying a bit of a resurgence too, Emmerdale on opposite it- which Who beat in the direct head to head ratings- so that was good.
Who got 5.7 million and going on last year that will probably time-shift to into the 7 million somewhere making it, same as last year, the most watched show that was broadcast on xmas day.
Good news too over on BBC America-
'It was BBC America’s top telecast of the year across all key demos, and was the No. 1 most social program on Christmas night across Facebook and Twitter.'
And more importantly given the commercial nature of TV state side it hit the key demograph that draws in advertisers- ' adults 18-49 and adults 25-54'
A good xmas for Who, and with Sherlock likely to tip the New Year figures too, and it being another top international seller for the BBC its another very Moffaty xmas period again for them! He is like the BBC's own personal Santa Claus- he just keeps delivering for them }}}

...BW: Returning to Doctor Who then, you’ve now nearly got a full complement of Doctors haven’t you? Only missing the Ninth?
NB: And obviously we’d like to do the Eleventh Doctor as well. No, Chris Eccleston is passing on the opportunity to do it at the moment. So we will investigate other ways of presenting his era within Big Finish. But hopefully one day he might change his mind. We’ll keep asking him. One day he and David Tennant will be playing water pistols at a Doctor Who convention, don’t you think? Just like Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee. [laughter] If only. There was a time when people thought Tom [Baker] was never going to do them and now he’s having the time of his life.
...
BW: Big Finish has certainly extended the lives of all of the Doctors.
NB: In the remote possibility that Christopher Eccleston is reading this interview, I would urge him never to close the door on it entirely. I don’t think he has. He always speaks about Doctor Who with great affection, when people corner him into speaking about it. I really enjoyed working with him, I thought he was a great Doctor, dedicated to the role and I was nothing but really impressed by him.
BW: His Doctor was quite special.
NB: I think he made the continuing reinvention of Doctor Who possible by showing that something could be completely different. It needn’t be the kind of Doctor that it used to be, and I think that was important. Although interestingly the Doctors have now veered back more towards the way they were in the classic series. But I think Chris particularly showed that actually, it could just be anything and anyone. And be brilliant.
BW: Now you also have John Hurt as the War Doctor in there too?
NB: Oh! Of course! Wow, that was the most amazing…
BW: That was a coup, wasn’t it?
NB: Yeah, great experience. He’s made no secret of the fact that, basically, because he had cancer he was looking for work he could do when he was sitting down. But he’s said he’s done all sorts of jobs for all sorts of reasons. The reason doesn’t matter, it’s the fact that he’s done it, and he had a really great time doing it. It was such a pleasure to work with him.
BW: Do you see him coming back for more?
NB: We’ve certainly intimated we’d like to do them. He was given the all clear from the cancer after our first recording session, so he did the next few knowing that he was well again. But I think he pretty much knew he was on the mend when he did the first one with us. The moment he’s given the all clear, he’s eligible for lots of film work and straight after his last session with us, he was off filming something else. He’s very in demand. He’s just one of those actors where casting directors say, “Oh, god, can we get John Hurt? That would be brilliant if we got John Hurt.” They’re always making that decision because, apart from the fact that he’s clearly a brilliant actor, he’s brilliant to work with, he’s really well prepared, he has a great dexterity in his performance, he’s really smart, he’s really on it, and he doesn’t bring any peripheral nonsense with him. He’s just great. Really a lovely, lovely man.
BW: We have just heard the great announcement of John Hurt returning as the Invisible Man. What can we expect from Big Finish in 2017?
NB: That is, of course, a gigantic question, and one that I can only answer with a list of teases! Where to start?
The Doctor Who main range is going to feature a trilogy of double-bills, in which the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors will appear in two, related two-part stories per double-CD release. It will deliver really exciting stories and challenging ideas.
There’ll be a new website this year, with all sorts of great new features. You’ll be able to access the Doctor Who releases by individual Doctor strands far more easily.
The Fourth Doctor range enters some fascinating new territory, with the Doctor and Romana encountering Jago and Litefoot, Sontarans, the Hollywood silent movie era, a haunted 1920s mansion and some really mind-blowing alien stuff.
The Eighth Doctor finishes his Doom Coalition sequence of stories and we move into the Time War with him — although there are plans afoot to do many more adventures with the Eighth Doctor in that almost infinite run-up to the Time War. We’re not shutting off any narrative possibilities there.
There’ll also be all sorts of great stuff for the First, Second and Third Doctors too — with the Daleks turning up to have a battle with the Third Doctor.
As you have heard, we’re doing all the great H.G. Wells classics — I’m currently writing The War of the Worlds, very exciting.
There’s a second series of The Prisoner out in time for the 50th anniversary of the series in September.
There’ll also be some great Gerry Anderson news too!
Honestly, the list feels almost endless. There’s loads I’ve left out, but I hope that gives you a flavour of the exciting times ahead.
One last thing, though… We have two anniversaries coming up. 2018 is the 20th anniversary of Big Finish Productions and 2019 is the 20th anniversary of Doctor Who at Big Finish Productions. So, 2018 will celebrate our inventiveness and tradition of creating new things, with a number of entirely original productions. 2019… well, it’s a monster of an anniversary for us, isn’t it?
All sorts of plans for that. Consider my big tease over… for now!

I just recorded an adaptation of a Doctor Who comic strip, featuring one of the classic Doctors but I won’t say which, so that’s fun.

I really enjoyed the first boxset so I'll probably get this one at some point.
In other Big Finish news, the 8th Doctor will encounter Susan and Nyssa during the Time War in a couple of Short Trips, tad disappointed they won't be fullcast audios, but they sound like they could be interesting, stunning covers:
https://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/doctor-who-short-trips-meet-the-time-war
Followed by a fullcast boxset in November:
https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-eighth-doctor-the-time-war-1384?range=112
As far as I know There's only been Two 8th Doctor time war stories so far; The Diary Of River Song 1.4 'The Rulers Of The Universe' and Classic Doctors New Monsters 1.4 'The Sontaran Ordeal' (or technically three stories if you count The Company Of Friends: Mary's Story...) so I'm very excited to hear more about his involvement in the conflict.
They are also doing a 2nd Volume of Classic Doctors: New Monsters:
https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/classic-doctors-new-monsters-volume-02-1472?range=113
I wonder if these short trips releases are testing the waters for New Who Short trips or a seperate Time War range?

Re: All New Who
{{Rachel Talalay -director of Death in Heaven/Dark Water/ Heaven Sent/Hell Bent- recently got a well deserved award from the Women In Film + Television Vancouver. And gave a speech on the subject of being a female director in today's industry, and here it is-}}
As a woman director, I’ve had my own battleground. In the big picture, I may look like I’ve held my own, but I haven’t. The scars are deep. And the problems aren’t over, as everyone here knows. The Film Industry is a disaster on gender and diversity and First Nations issues.
I have spent many years being told NEVER to mention it — threatened that it was ’a sure fire way never to get hired’.
Recently I was talking to my agents about my ambitions after finishing directing Sherlock. And they said ‘Yes, you have done Sherlock. yeah, the other Sherlock directors have all been offered pilots and features off the back of it. But remember, you are a woman”. It kind of took my breath away, to hear it stated so plainly. It wasn’t aggressive. It was so painfully casual, they probably wouldn’t even remember saying it. That’s what shocked me.
They simply meant, “We’re just going to have to work that much harder, but also be realistic about your expectations.’
I felt sick …. so I called the Doctor.
[Which requires a Knock Knock Joke and audience participation:]
Knock Knock …
[who’s there?]
Doctor
[Doctor Who?]
Doctor Who — exactly.
Ok so I called that doctor. I wanted his two hearts and his sonic screwdriver to fix it.
But you can’t sonic this away.
So instead he gave me some advice. He said “Just remember, one thing does not lead to another.”
And what the Doctor meant, in his 4 billion years of time travel and experience and wisdom, was not just that Time is nonLInear. But that you can’t expect it to come your way. You can’t be complacent or believe you will be rewarded. You have to go out, earn it, make it happen. Stand FOR something, not just AGAINST it. [are you listening, Mr. Trump?]
Loving, fixing, changing, that’s the hard part.
We all stand for women/diversity/First Nation’s voices.
All these underrepresented groups have stories to tell. The industry has to stop silencing us. If we can’t find support from the government, and to quote our PM “it’s 2016”. future generations will be missing out on more than half of the world’s stories and even more opportunities.
So let me stand with you —
Let me unchain your beasts and allow you to speak and write and create. Let me open the mouths of the oppressed women…of the missing women from the trailer [to the film On The Farm about Vancouver missing women from 1995-2001 – watch here: ] you saw for the film we made, so these women are not lost.
Let us all be invited to speak…
and …
if, as the doctor said, one thing doesn’t lead to another, then we won’t look only at the barriers, we can run around them, knock them down, vault over them and the next hurdle and the next and the next and the next — until we find we’ve passed all the hurdles and we are only faced with opportunities.
Never give up.

Re: All New Who
{{{ In other nice things she has said, on her much praised direction of Heaven Sent-
'Credit Will Oswald’s extraordinary editing of billions of years of footage. And Stuart Biddlecombe’s stunning cinematography. All accomplished on a budget less than ¼ of an episode of Game of Thrones. These craftsmen-artists need recognition.'
I think that bleeds into Halfys question on the Sherlock thread about who comes up with ideas.
Also found this quote form her about her first meeting with Moffat which I didnt know}}}
I did joke around with Steven Moffat in our first meeting. Immediately there was press saying, "woman woman woman" and so I said, "It's clear if I read the internet that you hired me because I'm a woman." And he said, "Oh, you're a woman? Maybe I just looked at your resume and your reel and your credentials and hired you because of that." We both agree that that's what we hope I was hired on.'
