And I knew the crow escort service might be shocking, but Amarie was going to find out soon enough anyway. All they do is escort me, lending me an ominous air when I buy corn flakes and cabbages at the market, for example.
Or when I burst through the door at SOIAF book club meetings. At these I do not speak, but glare knowingly while they croak.

Not at all convinced, but I'm in a loving mood at the moment, so I'll let it pass.

I will be honest, Elthir, and tell you that I have suspected this for a while as your entourage have been leaving some evidence behind. Also, the flow of birds hovering over Petty's chosen sleeping ditch for the night are usually ravens and vultures.

Petty, I heard you were growing some mushrooms to not only save money but also care for the environment. I see one should not draw inferences from limited data. (Do I begin to sound like a Loremaster? Blimey!)

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
How shall I describe him so incomparable?
To a voluptuous Dark Mistress (bearable)?
For is he not gorgeous in or out of pants?
Is he not kind to gnats and ants?
Would he crush them whilst in a Lordly rant?
Of what fair hue is his skin - porcelaine?
(How do you spell 'porcelaine' my refrain!)
Is his skin warty like a Scotshobbits?
Or fair as that of a Figgy poppet,
With his full name Eldo Roberts?
Is his brain the colour of blue steel?
(Sweet Eru, is he even real?)
Do his thighs shimmer under the Evenstar,
Or under even the Unevenstar?
At a drive in with Amarie in the back seat of his car?
Does he count a billion posts and keep score?
A billion? Sorry, perhaps a trifle more!
Does he pine for a girl called Nora?
Would he do just about anything for her?
Maybe buy her a fetching felt fedora?
Are his eyes like sauces of milk?
His fingers like threads of silk?
Do his testicles now swell with pride?
(He needs to be careful when he rides!)
Does he hold his sausage betide?
How can we express something that
Rejects words? and that's a fact!
In the ether and elthir of these days,
Do we sit and to Eru pray,
That he will never leave but stay...?

Thank you very much for that channeling, Wisey. It's good to see you back and business, I've missed you. A very touching passage you've managed to dig up there. *sniff*

Eldo!Eldorion wrote:I hope that I will one day find a way to root out the self-esteem issues. I feel I know where they come from, at least mostly, but having knowledge and awareness of my illness hasn't proven very effective in fighting it. Just about every day I wish I was different, feel insufficient and unworthy ... well, you know the drill. My mind keeps telling me that I'm a bad person. None of my counterarguments seem to work. But seeing the evidence of your guys' love and affection like this, not even the most warped part of my brain can find any other way to spin that. I am seriously in tears right now.
Thank you, both of you and everyone else, again from the bottom of my heart. For all the intensity of emotion right now I also feel sorta peaceful and safe. It's not a feeling I'm used to. But even the fleeting thought that it's something that might one day seem normal to me is like a bright light shining on my life right now.
The thread has exploded over the last day, but since this is my first time seeing it I'm just going to respond first and ignore the next 10 pages!
I don't have the sort of relationship to the forum that any of the veterans like yourself do, but I have lost touch with old groups of friends and old communities which had given me a sense of belonging and purpose, so I see where you're coming from with that. I respect how much stepping down from the admin position means to you and all the strong emotions you put out in your Farewell Speech, but I don't think you should take things so heavily upon yourself! I went through a depressive episode last year (albeit not as bad because nobody sent me off to the hospital!) and I remember well the first day a few weeks or so into it this horrible inescapable gloom when a bit of my former self poked through and I saw that there was hope for the future. I know how beautiful that feeling was, and I hope that whatever you do from here on, on this forum and other places online and at your work and with your girlfriend (crap, are you two still together? ) and your family and everywhere rewards you with endless amounts of it.
Remember, people change a lot. And I believe that if you hold yourself true to your principles (like the ones you clearly do of friendship and love and generosity of your time) than that change will be for the better. So look forward with hope and anticipation and enjoy the present!
I for one think you're incredibly lucky to have been so well-versed in Tolkien lore at such a young age (I have yet to read the same books you tackled then) and to have enjoyed the company of all these excellent Forumshire members. I'm jealous. I've been searching for that kind of inclusion for as long as I can remember, and it means a lot to me that I even got a mention in your farewell!
No worries on not joining in much on the D&D thread. It's mostly just me complaining about various things and then the usual Forumshire "discussion". Although I do wish you'd joined the short-lived Roll to Dodge. It would have given it quite the respectability of which everyone speaks so highly for the Admin himself to join!

I'm still waiting for Ms Amarie to release a profit and loss statement to see if Forumshire can afford to pay Mister Eldorion's pension. All this sentimentality is bearable (to a point), but show us the money, Ms Amarie!

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
Hey Forest, thanks for stopping by. I certainly see you as an important part of this community, and I hope that you enjoy coming here and will continue to do so. I know that I often struggle with emotional regulation as well as feeling that I'm obligated to do things that (I perceive) others want me to do. Those are some of the things I'm trying to work on. I appreciate your well-wishes, and my family has been really good to me through everything recently.
(If you're asking about Baingil, the girlfriend I mentioned in my speech, we broke up a few years ago. I've had two relationships since then, the more recent of which ended this past December right around my first ER visit as I was starting to realize what was going on with me.)
I was incredibly obsessed with Middle-earth for many years -- I mean I still am to some extent, but not quite like I was before. It kinda weirded some people out, especially my dad, even though he introduced me to the books. I was known as the LOTR kid to some people at church. Going online and meeting other people who were as crazy about Tolkien as me was a really great feeling. But forums very quickly became about more than just Tolkien to me, and the Lore debates haven't been my main preoccupation for a good while. But I love being part of the community, both here on this forum and in the fandom as a whole. I think you're definitely a part of it too if you want to be. Please let us know if you ever need anything, especially if you're feeling really depressed again.

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
Thanks, I'm sure I'll give voice to it if I do in the form of a long and crabbit rant somewhere abouts!
Yeah I was thinking about the most recent girlfriend. The one you watched LotR with was it? Or GoT? I remember one of you introduced the other to some stuff.
Oops, here I go talking about past girlfriends again. Sorry if the subject is sensitive!
By the by, how large is that pension going to be? I hope it won't be coming out of collections as I'm already strapped for cash saving up for this bloody car!

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
It's not a problem, man. Yeah, the one I watched LOTR with was the most recent one. Unfortunately it didn't work out too well towards the end. Me being really depressed was definitely part of that but there was other stuff going on too.
I wouldn't mind knowing more about this pension myself for, er, financial planning reasons. Which may or may not mean buying a new tropical island retreat since the old one was officially part of the Admin's Estates.
Oh, and speaking of music, I have another song to post that I really like (the original Beatles version sung by George Harrison is great too but I'm especially partial to the Joe Cocker cover).
