I assume that's your first dictatorial ultimatum, Amarie. Good. (That's my double-nod. You've started well.)

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
That's a really touching story, Orwell. I've found music to be really powerful and it's sometimes able to lift me up from my lowest points. The songs in this thread have all been really good, and they'll take on an added significance for me from having been part of the outpouring of emotion here.
Glad you like it too, bungo. That song really speaks to me, and I had "You're Gonna Carry That Weight" as my user title for the longest time. The whole medley is great but those three in particular ... just, damn.
Edit: shit, I didn't realize that was a cover. I had edited out the first version I posted cause the audio quality was terrible. I agree he does a really good job.

Geez, the best quality version I can find on YouTube is a Rock Band version, but it has the damn RB sound effects in it.

The local Classic Rock station in the Twin Cities plays Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End occasionally (it's probably their most played Beatles tune), and it always bums me out that they don't tag on Her Majesty at the end.

I wish the classic rock station in Baltimore would play more Beatles. I have mixed feelings about "Her Majesty" though.

Thanks halfy, I'm glad that it seemed that way.
Orwell has been very excited about our new Dark Mistress (in fact he came up with the name), though I'm still curious to see what she'll have to say in her inaugural speech.

Yeah, the one in the TC doesn't play much either, and after listening to the station most days at work I've gotten a good feel for what the typical rotation of songs is. They only play a handful of Beatles songs on regular rotation. Although on the anniversary of Lennon's death this past year they played every Beatles song A-Z on vinyl, which was really cool.

That's another good one, bungo.
Thanks Mrs Figg. It means a lot to me that you think that. By the way, in case I didn't mention this before, I really appreciate your perceptiveness in picking up what was going on in the year-end stats thread, even though I wasn't really trying to make that the topic. What you said to me then was a big help at the time.

I agree with your sentiments, Julia, but I plan to keep two eyes on Amarie, whenever it's possible, and at least one when peeking through her keyhole. Luckily, I have some experience in peeking through keyholes. For the common good. And sOme as say I'm very common, as in 'the common man' I presume, a term I accept gladly in all humility.

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
Well Eldo, it is perhaps needless to point out that this self appointed Loremaster of Forumshire has a fine nose for detail. Thus, I'm not that surprised to hear that you are human. Most of us at Forumshire are, and I say most because I believe one of us is a part-time horse, or at least a horses' back end (alarmingly, I suspect Mr. Letobeard)... and another of us might be a variety of vegetable, due to his/her earthy wisdom. I can't say for sure.
Anyway, you are a remarkable young human Eldo.
And I would call you friend if it were not for the fact that the image of the handsome Loremaster, alone in his distant tower, his books and his elegant beard his only friends (along with the occasional crow from the local escort service) is the more compelling picture here.
Thanks for Forumshire too. You've given a gift.
I hope you feel free to stop by my tower any time. My door is always closed and I have sold the door-knocker to pay for extra crows. Plus I moved out and stole some furniture, but I need someone to weed the garden and keep up appearances.
And when working my garden remember that there is no such thing as a weed, and that I prefer English grass. And that a good gardener likely won't think of himself as a giver of gifts. That last part was supposed to sound poetical and wise. In any case it might be a paraphrase of something Orwell already said. Drat him and his learned word making. I would almost suspect him of being a vegetable hybrid too, but what are the odds really.
Also the part about the escort crows is not dirty.
[I hope an "Elthir type post" will do Eldo. I thought it appropriate given my little history at Forumshire, and also since my being silly here, and chatting with friendly folk, has helped me through some rough times this past year. Plus in my opinion the more serious version of this post stunk, or stunk more anyway, and I forgot to steal some scented candles from the tower].
I will speak to Amarie about the furniture problem in the Tower of Lore.

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
I first read this thread at 2am this morning so I was too tired to really express myself well. But I want to say that as Elthir has already mentioned, you have given us a gift. A Home to escape to in troubled times. Somewhere you can be free to be silly and also free to be serious when the mood takes you. Somewhere you aren't judged for being odd, a place where being a bit of a misfit is a plus rather than being a social faux pas. Forumshire is a safe haven on The Road, there aren't many because the Road is full of dangers and false turns.
Eldo you are a scarily intelligent and mature young man and you are also brave and have more gumption than I could have under the circumstances. I know what depression feels like and I certainly couldn't have run a forum when it was bad, so I admire you for keeping it together and running the forum as if everything was hunky dory when clearly it wasn't. I wish you great luck and happiness in all you do in life.

Re: A Changing of the Guard (All, Please)
@Elthir, thank you very much, both for your compliments and for making me giggle this morning. I love your "Elthir type posts", and I'm glad we've gotten to see as much of you as we have over the years. Glad you're still enjoying the Tower of Lore. If I feel the need to pick up a retirement job I'll be sure that all the grass is of the proper Northern Hemisphere type and cut.
@Mrs Figg, thanks again, I really appreciate everything you've said. I certainly had times when I had to get away from things temporarily but I'm glad that you think I kept everything running smoothly. I've certainly valued the haven that is Forumshire, and I'm very grateful to everyone here for being so cool about me speaking frankly in this thread about some kinda difficult and awkward topics.

I don't see it as a furniture problem, I see it as a furniture challenge. No, a furniture opportunity. We'll just paint everything white and say it's modern minimalism. This will also create grey shadows of various hues which will have yourself and your guest entertained and mesmerized for hours. Yes that sounds good. I must add that to the brochure.

It is brave. My daughter is a ballroom dancer and a few years ago there was a story done in our local newspaper on her (under the general title of elite sports women, in her case it being Dancesport). In the story, she talked about her battles with mental illness. The Missus and I were proud of her honesty, which would hopefully give comfort to other sufferers. Sadly, there have been quite a few people since who now write her off somewhat as a fully functioning person. If she is having a bad day, it's down to her mental illness. If she's angry for any reason - you guessed it! If she's really happy and fairly bouncing through the day, she's being manic, and when people have treated her badly, or something really sad or tragic has occurred that makes her sad, you know what it is, of course, yep - "Well you know, of course, that she is a nutter!" If she is a bit anxious about some challenge in her life - well, it's that mental illness again. In other words, some ignoraramus's can dismiss her out of hand. She is an attractive intelligent creative girl who can now easily written off by anyone, including by those who are a mite jealous of her successes and personal attributes. Yep, Eldo (and Julia too, I see now!), you are very brave to come out and talk about your struggles. I brought my kids up to be honest. Seems you have been too! Yet sadly it's a policy fraught with social danger. Luckily, I suspect we misfits (and/or occasional mental cases, as being mental is not always an every day thing, it can come and go, you know) do understand to at least some degree what you are going through, and, as I said, recognise your bravery.

White, as we know, contains the whole colour spectrum. Perfect choice for any Loremaster with a refined interest in hue, or do I mean, hues?
Speech hey? You will get around to it, hey? Sounding a bit like a certain tardy Scotshobbit writer, hey!

A guy went to see his 2 friends that were living in the local mental facility. On arrival he sees his 1st friend, arms outstretched, running up & down singing the dam busters theme, "Hiya Steve" he says "And what are we today ?", His friend smiles back " Im a plane, weeee " & off he flies. He sees his 2nd friend & is shocked to see him naked in the lounge with his dick in a bag of peanuts. A little concerned that staff dont seem to see this he asks, "Hello Frank, erm, what are you today ?" . His friend looks up, pauses & says "Im fucking nuts like the rest of us!"
