{{{Its that time of the year again in my corner of the world- its the Cowal Highland Gathering (and annual buckie and crabbit competition) from roughly 6pm 6.30 ish until its dark and the fireworks begin the pipe bands march form the stadium at one end of town to the other end of town.
If you want a taste of it then go here-

http://www.dunoon.tv/

The camera points at the jubilee lamp, which is a popular place for bands to stop and play on their way through town so should get to see at least a few}}}

{{{Some stuff from the Cowal games.
First the serious stuff, starting with the highland dancers whose main competition day is Friday}}}

{{About 30secs in for the dancing to start- its damn competitive cut throat stuff the highland dancing world. And the judging is harsh as buggery, the slightest lapse in poise or position and your marked down instantly, you may as well go home if your foot touches one of the swords}}

{{The pipe bands take centre stage on the Saturday- first the serious competition stuff in the park- heres one of the best pipe bands in Scotland, Inveraray and District performing before the judges}}}

{{{There is also a bunch of traditional competions that day in the stadium, from running to caber tossing and wrestling, sadly no footage of that so far.
But after the days competition the bands march from the stadium through the town to the pier, by which time everyone, bands included are usually a bit pished and its all just for fun}}

I shared these pics with a friend of mine whose mom was raised in Paisley before the war.
She enjoyed the humour but brought up a good point. How do they keep the chalk from running in the drippy Scottish weather????
The "could be Bears" one looks particularly damp, yet not a run on it. scratch confused
