There's a veritable snowstorm going on here right now.

Well, at least it's a good excuse to light the fireplace and make a good cup of cocoa with a bit of buckie in it.

Lucky you, Blue. It's rained pretty hard here the last several days but stayed quite warm.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
This is a crude video I took a few days ago after the ocean had eaten another 30 feet of the Old Road.
The road used to go out more than a mile (into what is now the Sea) to the little town of North Cove.
Every morning and evening when I was a kid I'd ride the school bus over this road, stopping occasionally at other farms for other kids.
But the Ocean takes what it wants....

Re: Tales of Home [7]
Damn. I'm not really sure how to put into words right now but that little story/video gave me a melancholic but also sorta awed feeling. Sometimes I'm glad I don't live too close to the Ocean.
Re: Tales of Home [7]
its sad your road is gone Dave, losing good memories because things aren't there any more really sucks. same with buildings or fields you remember as a kid.
I don't mind the Sea taking back the land so much, because its a natural thing and She also gives back. Its man taking the land that really makes me sad.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
You didnt need words with that video, it said enough. The sea frightens the bejesus out of me ! there's just too much of it. Tsunami's frighten me also. Its a power you can do nothing about. What Mrs Figg said, about "man" taking land really makes me not just sad but bloody angry ! Its never for any worth while or good use in my book. Its like "man" is trying to match strength & power & pit wits against Nature knowing full well "man" cant win so, "man" takes it out in other ways, like stealing land & it makes him feel strong & on a par with the elements,.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
this is one of the places that defies words for me. It's hard to talk about the Ocean and Roads without slipping into metaphors.
Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea.
Except sometimes the sea finds them.

By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea.
Except sometimes the sea finds them.

'Row, row, row your boat,
crabbitly down the street,
Crabbity, crabbitry, crabbity, crabbity,
Life's a fucking nightmare'
This is one of the ways I normally go to work- except usually theres a whole promenade there, and then a wall, then beyond it a large beach, then the sea- not this time!
Yes, the sea is supposed to be on the other side of that fence and then some
Unless they have King Canute aboard not sure there is much this lot can do about the situation!-
Oh Bouy!! (sorry couln't resist)

Re: Tales of Home [7]
That blue ice looks amazing. I wonder if it's just very clear ice refracting the sky?

I don't know the optics of it, but I've been in the ice caves of Mount Rainier and the light is an uncanny blue, even when the sky is grey. Here's a picture but it doesn't do them justice.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
You can sometimes hear the glacier creaking and growning around you, which is both creepy and awe inspiring, th9ugh they usually close the caves to the public then because of cave-ins.

I like eerie sounds only if they are natural "nature" sounds not the hiss of a blood starved Dracula

Re: Tales of Home [7]
Not sure I'm to keen of eerie noises if it means half a mile of ice is about to fall on my head- however pretty or blue it is.
