I've seen that brand!

@Petty - Sadly I am one of those who get around on bikes, buses and trains - never got around to getting my licence after the traffic school I first went to got shut down. I am thinking lately I should get back to it, though, if only to be able to take trips like the one you posted there, looks beautiful. Anyway, that's not far from Glasgow at all - I'll keep you posted when I know more!

I'm at the Tons of rock in Oslo, currently watching Dreamtheather on the main stage. Liking it a lot, though sun and alohol is playing their part.

Ok, help me out here. Any explanation to men buying and wearing fake kilts, bought at fan tshirt stalls, is welcomed.

{{ No worries- me too! But not to worry as Ive already informed the better half if you make it down for a visit she will be ding taxi duty. Ok, she told me to get the bloody bus, but I'm working on it!
If you're staying a few nights I have a spare room, or if you prefer your own space I can set you up with a room at the hotel I work at, bed and breakfast, in November probably for under £40 a night.
Any explanation to men buying and wearing fake kilts- Amarie
Fake kilts!? what the hell is a fake kilt- are they made of plastic or something? I dont approve at all!!! Kilts should be heavy, worn, soiled, with the last 40 years of your life worn into their very fabric and being, a tapestry of your life recorded in stains, smells and spilt buckie. It needs to be big enough to live inside of in a drunken emergency on a freezing Scottish night, and able to defend you from midges on a damp summers night, and protect from the harshness of the evil sun on the rare days of heat. And if its got good and crusty enough protect you from rock falls and minor avalanches. You cant fake that!!! }}

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
{{ The stuff on the rack- I have no idea what the hell those are but they arent kilts!
As to the one in the spoiler- well some plus points- there appears to be a sporran, that's good and the buckie belly is present and correct, and they look pale enough to scare a ghost. So that's all good.
But thats where the good stops. I think its supposed to be Royal Stewart tartan, but its a bad copy if so. The fabric looks all wrong and the length definitely is. To test the correct length you should be able to go down on your knees and the hem should just brush the floor, he did that it'd be all round him. Socks are totally wrong, should be large, to just under the kneecap so minimum flesh between kilt and leg is exposed to midgies, and should be woollen and white, and he doesn't appear to be carrying a sgian-dubh in the top of the sock (small knife for emergencies!). And what the hells he got in his feet? where's his great muckle boots with steel toecaps for kicking Sassenachs with?
So overall pretty horrendous attempt at a kilt there!! }}

That guy's pretty good. By why does he refer to 1600-1800 as "ancient"?
Also, he didn't explain how he boiled water for his oats.

Ringdrotten wrote:Petty, how far away are you from Glasgow? I'm going there for a concert in November (the sixth), and I've got four weeks off, so I might as well spend some days over there . I was thinking I'd go to a hotel or a B&B up by Loch Lomond (basically just because The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond is a great song and it's close to Glasgow ), but if you're nearby it would be cool to meet somewhere.
Ah, Scotland, reminds me I want to go sometime, for the East/West Highland Line in particular. Apparently you can step on a train in Glasgow, go Mallaig, take a ferry to the Isle of Skye, take a short bus trip to Kyle of Lokalsch and then take the West Highland Line to Inverness, and then on to Edinbourgh, or back to Glasgow or wherever you fancy. Definitely on the to-do-list.
