Re: Holidays and absences [3]
Hi Ringo. Will you be in London during the week at all? I feel like I have asked this somewhere before but what are you going to see?
Re the countryside... best chance of sun is South coast so maybe get a train out of Paddington towards the West country... Devon/Dorset/Cornwall area. Possibly head to the Cotswolds or in to South Wales.

Ringo: get some bucky. Our last reporter (Tin) failed us, and the Brits don't seem interested in doing the job. I reckon it's just not fresh for them, sort of like asking an American to sample pop-tarts and report back.

Ringdrotten wrote:A question for those familiar with the fair English countryside - I'm going to London to see a concert on June 25th, but I'm staying until the 30th. The idea is to jump on a train on Monday (the 26th) to some nice and quiet village, preferably somewhere with a good chance of some sunny weather. I'll be travelling alone, so all I want is a quiet town where I can relax for a few days. Scenic countryside or any form of beautiful surroundings is a huge plus Any suggestions?
By the way, I'm flying down on Saturday the 24th, so if anyone is in London and up for a beer with a Fjordian with lousy pronounciation of the King's English, let me know
Oxford. its an hours train ride from London and is Tolkien HQ.

I'm going to see Jackson Browne Twice actually, just noticed today that he's playing on Saturday as well, so bought another ticket. There's a good chance I'll be in London Thursday afternoon/evening. My flight back to Fjordia is around 1700 on Friday, so it'll be more convenient to spend the last night in London. I've been looking at different areas in Cornwall, but I'll check out your other suggestions as well
Halfy - consider it done If I can find it, that is!
Figgs - I'm looking for something a bit smaller than Oxford for this trip

I was thinking the same thing but thought I'd bow to the greater local knowledge of the natives. From what little I've seen of it, you won't be bored in Oxford. And as a college town there'll be cultural happenings to partake of.
Cambridge is smaller.

Weren't we trying to bundle Figgles off to some sea shore town a year or two ago? Which one?

Hmm...Torquay seems to have more trees, Weymouth has that cool looking peninsula and is closer to London.

Ringo - I'm sure you've realized this by now, but it's of the utmost importance that you spend the later half of each evening in a pub. I suggest a pictorial documentary of the crowd you bond with each night.

Its the same with most countries. There are beautiful places, some hidden tho. I haven't travelled enough, even in my own Land, to know very much, sadly

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
well if you want that cute little village nearish London with that American Warewolf meets Wicker Man vibe, try the villages of Upper Slaughter or Lower Slaughter.

Huh, those are actual Village names...
I go up to Somerset most years with my Uncle to do a bit of Christmas Shopping and on the way there we pass a 'Farmer Giles Homestead', haven't seen any talking dogs or dragons round there yet...

Sounds like a few Werewolves of London have strayed a bit too far from their turf. Let's hope no little old ladies were mutilated late last night.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
That reminds me. Around NYC "SoHo" means "South of Houston street". What does it mean for London?
