Re: Star Wars [2]
Oh, it's a good show. But SW geeks have some high standards, so we'll nitpick to hell anything with the Star Wars label where if it was "The Expendables" we'd just shrug and enjoy the ride.

Re: Star Wars [2]
averages out to a pleasant wow. Second half was actually a bit formulaic for my tastes; first half had more potential but they muffed it.

Worth seeing. Aren't you of the original Star Wars generation? Should feel compulsory.

mebee,
I certainly liked it, but it didn't really have a great impact on me. I enjoyed it without becoming geeked out. I preferred fantasy.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Star Wars IS fantasy. Has some scifi elements, but is basically fantasy.

Re: Star Wars [2]
{{I'd say the original Star Wars borrowed more narrative from fantasy than sci-fi- it got its trappings, its feel and its look from scifi of the the 40's and 50's- your Flash Gordons ect but the story is pure fantasy.
Its got most of the points of Tolkien- Luke= Frodo- hero who doesn't know they are, living in a secluded place where the Empire/Dark Lord is a distant rumour. Then happenstance means the bad guys turn up in the hereos homeland becuase they end up in possession of the one thing can destroy the bad guy- Ring/Death Star plans- black riders in Shire thanks to Gollum, Stormtroopers killing Lukes family thanks to chasing droids- and the hero meets a mysterious wizard type who gives him all the back story and then they have to flee- Gandalf/Obi Wan -to Bree for Frodo/Mos Eisley for Luke where they team up with a person of initial dubious character but who in the end turns out to be a good guy- Aragorn/Han who also happen to be the ones with the love story- Leia/Arwen. They go on a journey and end up not by choice but necessity in a bad place- Moria/Death Star where the wizard character dies and then comes back later at a crucial time- Gandalf in time to turn the tide/Obi in time to tell Luke to turn off the computer and use the force. And the Ring is the death star plans they have to carry about in the droids and eventually use to get to the bad guys land/death star and destroy it. }}}

Re: Star Wars [2]
Carrie Fisher has suffered a heart attack and is in critical condition in Hospital
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-38423963
Some sites are saying she stopped breathing for 10 minutes, coupled with her age and a history of heavy smoking and drug use this is very serious indeed, if she lives it will be a very long road to recovery.
Thoughts are with her and her family,
Hang in their, and may the force be with you Carrie.

2:46 PM PT -- We're told when the plane landed paramedics worked on Carrie for 15 minutes with CPR before they were able to get a pulse. She's currently at UCLA Medical Center on a ventilator.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Yep, one doozy of a shitty year. Hope Miss Fisher does recover, how awful. Another reason to dislike Christmas, too many people having horrible things happen to them too close to Christmas. This season is either crazily happy or depressingly sad.

She may survive, but it would be a miracle if she's her normal spitfire self again.
