I laughed, but I'm also curious about the apparent fan warfare surrounding Robert Downey, Sr. now.
Re: Just...................whatever [6]
The quote though. Words to live by.

I've had a pangalin crawl up on my shoulder. They're very cute but tend to ignore you as they go sniffing around for edibles.

Ah...Pokemon the ridiculously addictive, surprisingly hard child's game where you were kicked out by your parents aged about 10 enslaved (and renamed-'Go Mr Poo!') mentally limited animals or (bits of plastic with mouths) and made them beat each other into a coma for small amounts of money which you could then spend at a casino...

Well when you word it like that, I'm not at all surprised that it's popular with grade schoolers.

Re: Just...................whatever [6]
{{{I interrupt this thread for unsolicited crabbit rant, thank you for your time-
I was readng a piece about the differences in English and American spelling and several thing occurred- first some US spelling is actually English, originally, but was later dropped in the UK and changed afterwards. But the majority of them are simply making a word spell more like it sounds, simplifying words, and losing letters that 'don't do anything'- and this is the bit where I have a problem.
A common example is dropping the silent letters- so for example English- anaemic- US- anemic.
But there is another class of letters in English which are silent- but not without an active function.
Take 'paste' for example- it doesn't end in an e sound- but the e sound is there to indicate the change in the 'a' sound so it doesn't sound exactly like past. And US English makes the mistake of dropping those sort too if they appear in the middle of words!
Which is why the lack of 'u' in a word is so annoying to Brits- as in color or armor- because without the u there is nothing to indicate the change in vowel sound- as spelt (yes that's spelt!) color should sound like col-or, and armor like arm-or, but the second vowel of armour has a 'uh' sound in it, as does colour in the first vowel sound!!!!! You know I think the misplaced, yet persistent notion that the US is a land of idiots is partially down to your handling of the language. You set out with the aim of simplifying it down so words were spelt more as they sounded, and then you cocked it up by doing th exact opposite and taking out letters you needed. And so whenever a Brit sees an American type color we are just face palming thinking they don't even understand the language they speak
-End of crabbit land, you may resume normal thread business, whatever the buggery that is-
ps this post should not be taken at face value, entirely. }}}

Re: Just...................whatever [6]
No, if we see "colour" we think it's an attempt to draw out the last syllable pretentiously: coloo-ur, as in velour. Better off changing color to coller, methinks, since even the british don't understand the value of the open versus closed syllable. (especially not microsoft, which keeps changing 'travelled' to 'traveled', which of course should be read as 'traveeled' )
I'd be happy to see the backside of 'ough' though...*cough*... tho.

Re: Just...................whatever [6]
One thing that confuses me is the American habit of writing 'I could care less' when they mean 'I couldn't care less'

Re: Just...................whatever [6]
I don't think that's an American thing, and in any event it certainly wasn't a deliberate shift. It's just people not really paying attention to the words they're saying. Same thing with "could of" instead of "could have" or "could've".

Maybe (apologies if I offended you).
I use could of/have fairly interchangeably...

Re: Just...................whatever [6]
I pronounce "color" with the U sound in both syllables. "KUH-LUR". So do most people I know. No idea if that's a pronunciation shift and if so when it happened.

I wasn't offended; I'm sorry if I came off aggressively. The "could care less" thing bugs me a fair bit.
Re: Just...................whatever [6]
It drives me bonkers, especially the way people emphasize it: "I COULD CARE LESS!" just points out how much they don't hear what they are saying.
