Oh wow I just realized that Rik Mayall does the voice for Toad in the animated films.

And what excellent comedy as well! My favourite bit is when Mayall breaks around 4:14.

What do you mean by two-hander?

Oh I see. Like that one episode of Doctor Who was almost a one-hander.

{{Precisely, though one-hander sounds a bit rude! Embarassed

Another similar episode that's a favourite of mine is Red Dwarf's Marooned- which is mainly just Lister and Rimmer stick together in one room.

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vez1l

I really like these sort of episodes from a writing point of view- all you've got are the characters to play off each other and the situation they are in. }}

Somebody's gonna try to turn the Foundation book series into a TV series.  About flippin' time!

Anybody around here watched the Westworld TV series? I've been rather impressed with it myself. It knows the value of the carefully set up mind-fuck. Not perfect - the humans are less interesting than the robots - but much better than expected.

Wow, it just keeps getting better. This show will end up being a classic. I have to go look at the writers, some gorgeous lines for Anthony Hopkins and Thandy Newton.

{{There is a similarity there to the upcoming Tolkien based series, both are based technically on the books but seem to want to borrow their aesthetic form another medium (in the Amazon case PJ's films, here the Witcher game series). Got hopes for this, Ive always enjoyed the games more for their setting, characters and narrative than I have the gameplay, especially the combat mechanics, so just the plot sounds good to me)}}

I'm currently away on a little work-related troll hunting trip, meaning limited access to the internet, movies, TV shows and the like - which is mostly a good thing, as I'm reading alot, exercising on a daily basis and drinking water for a change. Anyway, the place I'm at has a stash of older and newer movies and TV shows, and one I found was Northern Exposure I remembered that Halfy mentioned it a while ago and I thought I'd give it a try. And it's brilliant! The intro alone is enough to make me smile, which frankly nothing has for a few months now, without going into further details about all matters bluesy. Absolutely loving this show, and I can't really explain why. Like Halfy said, it's similar to Twin Peaks in some way, the quirky small-town stuff, but without the Lynch element for lack of a better word. It's just a fun, good-feel, weird show, and it keeps getting better. Almost on season 3 now, and I realise I'll have to find this somewhere when I get back home. Thanks for mentioning it, halfy - would probably never have given it a second glance if you hadn't.

Glad you discovered this little gem, Ringo! As you said there is plenty of quirkiness but no darkness there, which is sometimes just what you need. It's sort of a long sweet love letter to the wackiness that is Alaska. I think Portlandia sort of does the same for the Pacific Northwest, but I haven't gotten round to watching that yet.

Watched the episode "Spring Break" (season 2) today, the quirkiness reached a new high with that one I think. So many great characters in this show, Ed especially. A gem indeed!

{{Been a long time since I saw Northern Exposure! Might be time for a rewatch- I did enjoy it a lot at the time. Think Picket Fences was somewhere about the same time period, another odd little show I rather enjoyed at the time but haven't taken a fresh look at in years. That might be worth adding to your list too Ringo. }}
