I've finally had the time and focus to be able to watch anime more regularly again, but I'm not sure if I have any "when good shows go bad" examples among the stuff I've watched recently. The closest might be Erased, which started off phenomenal and had a relatively weak ending, though I was still a fan of the show as a whole. I just finished RWBY (not technically anime) which is kind of the inverse since it starts off really rough but gets better with each season (four so far) to a surprisingly huge extent. The only exception I'd mention is fight choreography as that was the show's main strength early on, and while it's still good in that respect, the fights haven't been quite the same since the original creator passed away (after season two).

{{Well they got the same gy back on th emusic so no worries there!

Was watching a red dwrf cast vid, hopefully more form the Bys from the Dwarf soon!

In the meantime, if you've never seen it, spend half an hour with this, its a favourite episode, but I picked it mainly because the way it starts is a great intro to the characters if you dont know them already.}}

{{Judge Dredd is coming to a TV screen near you!!! bounce bounce bounce
A tv series is going into production called Mega-City One.

Things I am hopeful about so far-
1. Its being made in the UK.
2. Its being co-produced by Rebellion the parent company who own 2000AD the UK comic Dredd appears in.
3. The title is hopeful to me.

Bit of explanation on that last one- it would on the surface make more sense to stick Dredd somewhere in the title, as that's the most well known thing, with 2 films already in existence with the name in it.
But they didn't- they've named it after the main location- which makes me hopeful this is not in fact a Dredd series as such but will incorporate a lot more - episodes about Anderson and psi division where Dredd might be the guest role appearance rather than star ect.

The comics lend themselves very much to this sort of thing- firstly they are episodic by nature and Dredd is not always the main character and secondly the huge tonal shifts in the Dredd world.

The films struggled with this- the Stallone film incorporated a lot of the humour very well ( "Eat recycled food. Recycled food is good for the environment. And its ok for you.") and it had some of the satire and the seemingly overzealous sentencing of the Judges for what we might consider petty crimes, or no crime at all. But then it also tried to be dark and serious.
The Urban version went the other way, whilst some of the comic humour remains, the darker sort, and there a few subtle sight gags for fans in background details, it pretty much dumps the humour to focus on the dark stuff. Which works better than the Stallone mish-mash but then it fails to convey that side to Dredd's world.

A TV show however allows for different episodes to be tonally different- you can have humorous episodes, like the comic story in which two new immigrants to the city mistake Dredds huge vault like front door to be something that must have valuables behind it- it doesn't its Dredd apartment and he is having a bath. Very Happy Making Dredd in the Bath an instant comedy classic.
Then you have grim as shit serious stuff like Dead Man, or Necropolis.
With Tv they can switch from satirical, comedy, serious, topical far easier than a single film can.

So high hope of seeing some proper justice dealt out to perps soon!! }}}

Just started watching Twin Peaks, on season 2 ep3 already. It's been a little over an hour since I watched the ending of the second season's first episode, and my heart still hasn't fallen back down to where it belongs. Middle of the day and I'm terrified Laughing This show is as twisted and as brilliant as they come. Must watch more, no time for typing.

Since I don't do cable (pay as opposed to free broadcast) I haven't seen any of the new Twin Peaks, but from Petty's review I think they made a misstep by not doing quirky characters right up front. That's what will hook in new viewers.

{{I would say it doesn't even bother trying to hook in new viewers- its a straight up continuation. If you are not already up to speed on the Good Lodge, Bad Lodge, Bob and Cooper's story then you wont have a clue whats going on- for the fan its the same but its matter of putting the imagery into whatever construct you had built around the original imagery for yourself, so its fun. But without that knowledge there is no context at all to a lot of what happens in the first three episodes in particular.

In much the same way the film Fire Walk Wit Me was uncompromisingly dark and disturbing start to finish, making a very unnerving, uncomfortable viewing experience- this is uncompromisingly abstract to begin with, making for a disorientating, and question filled experience.

I honestly have no idea what a viewer would make of it who had no prior Peaks knowledge whatsoever. }}}

That site is filthy and should be avoided.
