Re: The New Catchat Thread [2]
I thought he was ok Tho how that 1st cat put up with being donked about ? she's very easy going I scoop my pussies up with a hand under the chest & my arm under their bum, I don't let my cats legs dangle or let their guts stretch out either. And I put them gently down with minimum of distance from me to the ground ( or usually settee or bed ) My cats do like being squished a bit. but, they know me, we know each other & sometimes you can get away with things no one else can. Its about trust.

Re: The New Catchat Thread [2]
Reposting from Facebook because I don't have it in me to try to write two separate posts about this. :c
Fred was born some time in mid to late 2004. We adopted him in very early 2005 and, in lieu of knowing his actual birthday, gave him mine (August 8 ) since it was close to when his probably was. That would've made him exactly 10 years younger than me.
We adopted him a couple years after losing Peppermint. Because I'd picked her out, I got to choose the next cat we got. Fred was the first one to come up to us in the kitten room at the shelter and wouldn't stop meowing and rubbing up against me, so I felt like he'd already chosen me and that it wouldn't be right to pick any other cat.
I didn't decide on a name for him immediately (I think I called him "Kitten X" as a placeholder) because I wanted to get a better sense of his personality first. He kept knocking things over and causing trouble so because of that, coupled with his orange fur, I named him after Fred Weasley from Harry Potter.
He was one of the only cats I've ever met who actually liked having his belly rubbed. He would lay down and stretch out but never bit or clawed at people's hands. If he'd had enough he'd just roll over and get up, but you could go for a long time and he'd usually be happy.
At some point in the first year or two that we had him, Lucy and I watched a documentary about efforts to reintroduce tigers into the wild. One of the main things they did was teach the tigers to use dry riverbeds as cover while stalking prey. We decided to "teach" Fred to lie in wait on the stairs until someone let a wind-up lego car roll past at which point he'd jump up and grab it.
My first profile picture on Facebook was a photo of Fred and he's featured prominently in a lot of other photos I've shared on here as well. He didn't always like posing for pictures but he was always really photogenic in my opinion.
My favorite picture of him is the one in this post, from when I was ~11. It was unposed but he looked at the camera at just the right time for it to work really well. He tended to be very cooperative with me holding him, though he'd put his claws in my shirt to hold on sometimes.
He was a primarily indoor car for most of his life and we stopped letting him outside unsupervised several years ago because one of our neighbors got a cat that kept fighting him. I think he won most of the fights but after he came home the worse for wear a couple times it wasn't something we could really let continue, though he kept trying to sneak out.
He was fairly svelte in his younger days but put on weight as he got older, hence the nickname "Fat Fred". We got him a harness to try to take him for walks on a couple occasions but he wasn't really having it. Unlike Nelly, he wasn't really one for tagging along on walks (not that she needed a harness for that).
I didn't get to see a ton of him the past four years, as we no longer lived in the same house. He was always really affectionate when I visited and seemed excited and not like he resented me for being gone. I'm not sure I deserved that but it was always really nice.
He had a health scare about ten months ago and it seemed like he might not make it, but he pulled through. His health just took a sharp downward turn again but I'm incredibly grateful to my mom that his final day was a peaceful one and he got to spend some time outside in the backyard.
I always knew this would be hard but losing Fred hits a lot harder than any other pet since we had for so long and him and I were so for much of my childhood and all of my teen years. I only have a year or two of clear memories from before we got him.
It'll probably take a while to sink that he's gone, but for now I'm just looking at pictures of him and crying and reliving old memories and hoping that writing down some of what I'm feeling will help because that's what I do to try to process emotions.
RIP Fred (2004-2018). I'm really, really gonna miss you.

Re: The New Catchat Thread [2]
Animals have a transcendent way of bonding because they have no words to get in the way and confuse things. There's purity of being in that which leaves such a large hole when gone.

Im so sorry Eldy ! My pets fill the whole of me & when you lose one it leaves a big hole in your heart. I know I will lose my loves one day but, when it happens it feels like being stabbed with an icy cold steel blade. The peace in your heart will come but, you do need to grieve, its a bereavement but you will heal.

Re: The New Catchat Thread [2]
my heart has been broken over a pet than a human. humans know what they are doing, they are hateful & cruel, they choose to be utter bastards, pets ? they love without criticism, are innocent in their ways for no other reason than to be just themselves. They don't pre plan any spiteful intentions either. Sometimes, you can never tell what a person is capable until they strike.

they are predators. If they weren't so fuzzy we'd be rightfully terrified of them at night.
