Re: Tolkien in General
The Great War channel on YouTube just did a mini-bio episode of Tolkien focusing on his WWI experience, drawing largely on John Garth's work. I like this channel and I think this video gives a pretty good intro/overview.
Re: Tolkien in General
I enjoyed that Eldo, & watching the clips provides a connection & drives home what an amazing man Tolkien was. I am in awe of the man. He led as full a life as I can see & he was "here" for a reason. The only thing that irritated me a tad was that the spokesman couldnt keep fooking still !!!

Good video. I loved his impassioned description of the relationship between Beren and Luthien.

Re: Tolkien in General
New information for me: Bag-end was the name of his farm in England, and the Hobbit was partly inspired by a trip to Switzerland. It's interesting that 'Baggins' came from Appalachia, and 'Bag end' from England!

He could have consulted me about his Elvish pronunciation.
I mean if you don't get that right, what can you believe about the rest of the video? And that map behind him didn't look very much like Middle-earth!
As far as presentation goes: I would advise less moving about and more drinking water in between some sentences. The drinking can add a nice pause for the viewer to ponder why the presenter seems so thirsty.

Re: Tolkien in General
Hi everyone.
I came upon a link that made me think. It is someones thoughts on the nature of Gandalf the White.
Some reasonable points are made and I thought I would inquire of the opinion of the sage lore masters here.

Forgive me if this is an old topic. If so perhaps someone could be gracious enough to point me to the thread that holds this topic.

Re: Tolkien in General
To me some of his best points are when
Aragorn,Gimli and Legolas reunite with Gandalf he says, yes, that was the name. I WAS Gandalf. You may Still call me Gandalf.
the voice was the voice of their old friend as if his voice before then was not Gandalfs voice...
indeed none of you has a weapon that could hurt me... I have forgotten much I thought I knew...remembered much that was forgotten.
And the passage of his being Light when he removed his cloak like he was not the same fleshy form that he used to wear.
And this guy makes the point of Gwahir saying that he was weightless...
Good points I feel.
Curious to hear the lore masters thoughts.
