I didnt make any comment at all about its humour (for the record I found it very mildly amusing, if a bit predictable and the vid title has nothing to do with the sketch)- just pointing out that for a show based on impressions its a terrible impression of Capaldi- Spitting mage would never have been so poor in its voice talent. Which is why unlike Spitting Image this show has made zero cultural impact and will probably be gone and never seen again.

Why cant they get decent impressionists in any more? Where are the new generation of impressionists, the Rory Bremmners and the like who cut their teeth on Spitting Image?
Surely this, basically a cgi version of Spitting Image, is perfect for that.

See- thats British satire! Nod

Besides the best parody of Moffat Who writing was of course written by Moffat before NuWho even existed- a sketch for Comic Relief that takes the piss out of all Moffats usual tropes far better than that sketch did-

That might explain why it's only 12 episodes this series Laughing

Ha possibly! (But depends how you count them- last series was officially 12 episode plus a xmas special- but the xmas episode turned out to be a part of the main series arc so it was really the 13th episode- but I think they made the right choice between keeping 13 eps and special but cutting the budget for all the episodes, or losing an episode and maintaining the budget in the rest- but then only the BBC would cut the budget of its flagship show and biggest international seller for reasons of politics).

Maybe that's why it's mostly (or possibly entirely) 2-parters this series, to save more money again?

I'm not sure whether IMAX would even work on Who, metal corridors and welsh quarries probably aren't the most exciting things to film in the format...

True- Id guess if they are filming stuff for imax its one of three things- the opening, similar to how Deep Breath got a cinema release last year. The finale- though thats not too likely as you rely on the audience for it having seen the rest. Or the xmas special- which is possible as they have never done one of those for cinema, yet. But as far as I know they haven't even got a xmas special yet and its not normally written and filmed until after the main shooting for the series.

So basically the first option seems most likely. Especially as there are rumours swirling that the opening episode is 75 minutes long (Dee Breath was 79).

I don't mind the occasional longer ep for Regeneration stories etc, but I'd rather take an extra story (just for the variety), over one padded to make it seem more of an event (at least with 2 parters there is a cliffhanger, I felt Deep Breath and The End of Time were both slightly too long), I wouldn't say no to more cinema releases, but making it an annual event just diminishes things a little imo, and makes the chances of a film more likely (I'm not keen on a Dr Who film personally, it would just divert resources from the Tv series and pander to casual audiences).

Though i think those eyebrows would be even more fearsome in IMAX...

I thought Deep Breath had at least one scene -where Strax does the medical exam on Clara- that felt added to up the runtime for cinema.

As Moffat seems rightfully opposed to a Doctor Who movie I suspect one movie length event a series is his concession to the money men- at least this way its not some god-awful spin off or reboot version but the real deal (and if the money gets funneled back to the show I'd be happy with that- but it probably doesnt).
