Was he split up solely to save the Doctor, no other reason?
Typical of you to blame me for hating a person when I dislike a character you love. She'd be creepy in any writers hand I imagine, but I can only judge her from what Moffat is showing me.

I dont remember ever stating love for Clara She is in fact my third favourite nuwho companion after Donna and Amy.
But she did go up quite a bit in my estimations during series 8.
But I do think you view the episode through a preconceived prism of dislike- I reckon if RTD had never existed and Moffat had wrote Rose, exactly as she was, you would still be making largely the same accusations about how Rose has to fall in love with him, how its creepy the way she treats others out of jealousy of her Doctor, and even creepier the Doctor returns that love, how he has to make her so important than only she can save ever universe ever anywhere ect ect.

the basic premise of Clara is unhealthy and creepy, whereas Rose is healthy and normal.

You are wrong, Petty. I didn't give a damn who writes, a good episode was a good episode and still is. By your logic I hate Blink and adoooore Martha's copycat lovestory and her turning into GI Jane.

Re: Doctor Who [10]
Okay, here is the easy way to solve this. If somethings bad, it doesn't mean something else is good. And vice cersa.
And really, if we want to lower the acrimony of the debate, let's just stop with the comparisons, eh? Discuss things on their own merit?
Then again, then this thread would be half as long, and not half as entertaining.
Forget everything I've said..

Yup, a classic story indeed And Romanna in a Gallifryean Academy school uniform- nothing suspiciously 70's BBC about that at all!

I like how the Doctor calls 1979 a table wine as far as good years to visit go.

Its full of great one liners, as you'd expect from Adams.
My fav from it is probably "What a wonderful butler, he's so violent."
But the Cleese moment is worth a mention-

Re: Doctor Who [10]
If youve never read Dirk Gently's Holistic detective Agency then give it a go- its basically the plot of Shada mixed with the plot of City of Death without the Doctor in it! The cheeky bastard.
"You're a beautiful woman.. probably."
I can imagine 12 saying that- he has that classic Who incomprehension of ideas of beauty or looks or age.

Re: Doctor Who [10]
The Doctor: [on the Eiffel Tower] Nice, isn't it?
Romana: Yes, marvellous.
The Doctor: Marvellous. Absolutely.
Romana: Absolutely marvellous.
The Doctor: Well, I think it's marvelous.
Romana: So do I. Though it's not quite as you described it.
The Doctor: Really? How did I describe it?
Romana: Well, you said it was nice.
The Doctor: It's the only place in the Universe where one can relax entirely.
Romana: Mmm... That bouquet!
The Doctor: What Paris has, it has an ethos... a life... It has...
Romana: A bouquet?
The Doctor: A spirit all of its own. Like a wine, it has...
Romana: A bouquet.
The Doctor: It has a bouquet. Yeah. Like a good wine. You have to chose one of the vintage years, of course.
Romana: What year is this?
The Doctor: Ah, well... well, it's 1979, actually. More of a table wine, shall we say? Ha! A randomizer is a useful device, but it lacks true discrimination. Shall we sip it and see?
Romana: Oh, I'd be delighted. Should we take the lift or fly?
The Doctor: Let's not be ostentatious.
Romana: All right, let's fly, then.
The Doctor: That would look silly. We'll take the lift, come on.

Was going to put this on the games thread, but decided just to bung it here- the updated TARDIS mod for Skyrim (skip to 24.50 to see it) its beautifully modelled-

Re: Doctor Who [10]
Turns out the one actor fired from the role is the most prolific (quite a neat little blog)
http://circular-time.tumblr.com/post/119247422894/classic-who-regulars-sorted-by-how-much-total-time
And I think this photo on the blog sums up my opinion of the 8th doctor fighting in the time war:

Colin Baker 12340 minutes (or 205.66 hours)
And I think this photo on the blog sums up my opinion of the 8th doctor fighting in the time war:

Re: Doctor Who [10]
Who stuff-
The new block of shooting has got under-way and all seems to be going well and on schedule.
Rebecca Front has been announced as a guest star in one of the new block of episodes. She was the Minister in series 3 and 4 of the Thick of It so has worked with Capaldi before.
It makes her the second actor from The Thick of It to appear in Capaldi era Who after Chris Addison last series.
Hints that we may not be done yet with River Song-
'When asked for a comment at Mega-Con, Kingston responded with “all I can say is… spoilers! But what I will say is the sonic screwdriver that I had in Silence In The Library, which had been given to me by the Doctor, is not the sonic screwdriver that has been seen… yet.”- Den of Geek
On the same subject Moffat has said-
' "It's certainly not ruled out,” said the showrunner. “I have a sort of worry about keeping anybody around in the Doctor's life for too long. Because he's the man who leaves."
Moffat added: "I mentioned in passing to Russell [T Davies, his predecessor] that we were probably done with River. He said, 'You can't be done with River! No, no, no. Capaldi and Kingston, it's a sex storm!’"
So there you have it, if RTD were back in charge we'd be watching a 12/River 'sex storm' by now!
And to round things off a vid I liked from WinterThief-
