I liked The End of Time a lot. But then I would.
Just realized that I have never seen Love and Monsters.

Robot is pretty much a Pertwee episode with Baker in the role. It gets better over the next couple of episodes. And particularily in the next season. When the new showrunners got to leave their mark on the show.
Peter Hincliffe (the producer) did complain that the previous showrunners had already scheduled out the entirety of his first season with the go to villains, like Daleks and Cybermen.

Re: Doctor Who [10]
Its still better than Fear Her. Love and Monsters has some of the characters of the LINDA group at least that put in good performances given what they have to work with, Fear Her has nothing.

Robot isn't what I would call a 4th Doctor story, its very much still a 3rd Doctor story. Fortunately it doesn't take long for the shift to happen to proper 4th Doctor style stories, they just had to adapt to Tom's style and a new direction- ha! simu post Blue- we are on the same wave length on this one I see!

Robot did seem like a holdover from Pertwee (though I think most doctors are written rather generically in their first few eps), I'm not sure the Brig would have worked very well with 4 anyway (he's only in, what, 2-3 Tom Baker stories?), glad they started to move way from Earth a bit more.
Ark in Space was really good fun Though the bubblewrap slug wasn't convincing even by 1974 standards...
Harry seems like a bit of a thicky though...
Warmed to Tom Baker straight away, though his wide eyed stare is kinda creepy

True, I liked Marc Warren's performance, though I'm glad RDT scrapped the idea of him being the series 4 companion, one reference to oral sex with a paving slab was bad enough
Fear Her wasn't distasteful or weak, it was just shit

True.
"I think most doctors are written rather generically in their first few eps"
Moffat said that about writing for new Doctors- at the start you just put in generic Doctor stuff. The basic vanilla Doctor. And you see what the actor does with it, then the writers start to tailor the dialogue to the delivery.

Oddly enough I think Mcgann was one of the exceptions, although it was a joint UK/US production it was written and directed by Brits and a continuation of the old series, but I still felt 8's joyous wide eyed wonderment was a sharp contrast to Classic Who, it felt more like a soft reboot than a continuation, it's weird I had no trouble picturing him as a doctor, but not necessarily one that links all that well with the others.

I'd say so.
Robot is alright for what it is. Though I think my favourite moment was the 4th Doctyor trying to bugger off immidiately after his regeneration. Very in character, I thought.
malickfan wrote:Ark in Space was really good fun Though the bubblewrap slug wasn't convincing even by 1974 standards...
Ark in Space is a lot more like it. Fun and interesting, but over ambitious are very much the bywords for the Baker era.

Re: Doctor Who [10]
I felt at the time that 8 reminded me most of 5 but with more passion.
I find Toms mad eyes and huge toothy grin, and how he deploys them, not so much creepy as just alien. Just slightly, off, but in a joyously mad sort of way.

I meant creepy more in the way that he didn't seem to blink very often (maybe he was waiting for the angels to turn up...), 'joyously mad' I think that would sum 4 up very well, it was interesting to note his Body Language and Voice were more alien than his actions, it made quite a chnage from Pertwee's stright laced dandy (he was alien, almost because he acted so 'normal')
Having listened to more of 8's audios, I can see the 5 resemblance, but he also reminds he of Hartnell a bit, mildy eccentric, but very curious and Edwardian.

Yeah I can see how you could be thinking Hartnell, they do share that same feeling of Edwardian gentlemen adventurer.

Re: Doctor Who [10]
- Spoiler:
- 1. Tenerife is a good choice. They used if for the Moon last series and it looked superb- much better than just filming on a green screen and cgi'ing the backdrop in.
And its rumoured this time its doubling for Kaan, so once its all colour corrected that should look excellent too.
2. This was announced a week ago=- presumably as they knew they would be filming on locations and it would leak anyway. Again rumours, but if Tenerife is doubling for Kaan then it seems the Doctor goes to see the Sisterhood, who if you remember from the 8th Doctor regen story offered him the ability to make him a man or a woman as their technology is higher than the Time Lords on regeneration. So its possible he goes there to find out how Missy came back.
3. No idea.

So you can safely run along and stock up on popcorn.

You missed out also wearing RTD blinkers that allows for extreme hypocrisy and not being able to see the obvious about RTD whilst flaming Moffat for exactly the same thing.
