I still haven't rewatched the originals since their release, only your first edit a couple of times - maybe I'll download these and watch them, but I can't honestly imagine how you could have salvaged anything from them

{{ No need to download- you can stream them and just watch online. And suprisingly most of the Hobbit story is more or less in there, buried under the crap. The best thing I can say about my edits, as they obviously cant repair all, is that they feel very much Bilbo focused, and Bilbos story in comparison to PJ's cuts. Ive also taken out as many of the clumsy foreshadowing of LotR's events as possible and they are edited with viewing them first in mind so the films can, like the books, be read in the correct order without ruining anything.}}

How far we've come since I joined in 2010 - I can now upload 15 gigs and stream edits! I'll give it a go

{{ Yup- if you recall when I first uploaded the first edit it was on the then all new One Drive, and it had such a low file size limit I had to break the films into about 30 indivual pieces in zipped files, and you had to download all the bits first then extract them all to put it all back together into 1 film! Now you can stream them and watch them on the go if you want. }}

{{ Seeing as we are all stuck inside for foreseeable future, it occured we could have Forumshire viewing of the purist edits- well two Hobbit films, and book 1 of LotR's pending Ringo being able to upload bk's 2 4, 5 and 6 (I have 3 for some reason).

We just need to agree a time for watching together and then folk can comment on here as we all watch (though the links are streamable I would advise where possible downloading to watch, if we all try to watch at once might cause buffering issue).

I'm still working full time, though from home. Teaching courses online, which isn't a difficult transition since I try to make sure I have everything I need on powerpoint anyway so they have it for future reference. But you don't get the social feedback when presenting this way. It's like talking to a wall. When meeting with people online it's normally like more of a conversation, but with 20-30, everyone turns off there cameras and mutes to prevent background noise. Even if a few leave it on it's not like talking to a group of people at all. Takes all the joy out of presenting new ideas if you can't feel the room react.

NYC at this time is 4 hours earlier than london. So you can do a night viewing. West coast is another 4 hours earlier.

If you do wish to and can, please download it beforehand rather than stream it, that way hopefully those who have to stream wont have too many issues with buffering.

My suggestion for viewing time is 9pm GMT, hopefully not too late, and not too early for the UShobbits.

The zoom free version is good for 40 minutes, then can take a break and restart it.  Free, easy to download.

I have an official account from the university I shouldn't use for this, but I can instead start a free conference 10 minutes before starting time and share the link.  then take a break before it runs out and start another one.  It has video so we can do faces and voices all at the same time.
