That's a lovely view Am very christmassy
As far as I know we haven't had a white christmas down here since I was a kid, it feels like we tend to get show dumped in one massive pile every couple of years at some stupid time in October or March etc...

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Today might have been the coldest morning yet (at least out of the mornings when I've had to be in at 7:00 or 7:30, but it's been really dry lately so no frost on the windshields, which had previously happened several times.
Re: Tales of Home [6]
Had some snow last week. Below freezing temps and frosted windshields most days before work. I'm usually out the door at 5:30.

Rain, sleet, occasional hail and high winds, more rain, outbreaks of grey. The Scots for this is dreicht (dree -to rhyme with tree- ch -the throaty sort-t- as in tap-)
Azriel in the block of flats at the end of my road someone had their xmas decorations up from day after Halloween. Bad enough for a few weeks of the year everyone loses all sense of taste and covers their house in gaudy crap they'd never normally entertain for a minute, but to do it early!! I hate xmas

Re: Tales of Home [6]
People lose their senses when it comes to Christmas. They dress in weird festive jumpers & leggings & throw any old lights & decorations on the front of their houses all in the name of being happy & friendly. Ive had people say Happy Christmas to me that normally cross the road away from me. They piss the neighbours living opposite with their gaudy, non matching, nonsensical flashing migraine inducing colour bombs & moan when the electric bill comes in. Waste of bloody money as YOU wont see them but everyone else will, ( & everyone else will moan to the council !) then there's the Agg of getting them down in the New Yr, so, the majority leave them up ! ( not switched on thank gawd ! )

Re: Tales of Home [6]
From the desk of The Mayor:
Happy Thanksgiving!
The Mayor would like to wish his fellow US Hobbits (and international Hobbit friends) a Happy Thanksgiving! The season of perpetual spending and commercialism isalmost already upon us. Take time out of your day to spend time with your loved ones, and remember what this time of year is really about. The more time we spend in lines on Black Friday (though it has now, unfortunately, become Black Thursday) we lose a little more of our humanity. Maybe that $200 dollar 52" made in China television can wait. Maybe you don't need it at all. Material things can not replace the love and emotional support that comes with family and close friends. Treasure them, and remember that we literally cannot take anything with us. What we have here and now is special. Be kind. Find your own power of forgiveness. Listen. Lend a hand. Be thankful.
The Mayor's contribution to the Thanksgiving table (I was really pleased with how my pecan pie turned out and wanted to share it with you all.):

I almost vomited at first because I thought the pecans looked like cockroaches. That's no offense to your cooking though; it looks delicious now that I know what it is. Have a nice thanksgiving!

to the message. couldn't agree more. I always find those bestial scrums through the doors of department stores incredibly revolting. people fighting and climbing over each other to get 'bargains'. Its humanity at its worst.
great looking pie. I have never tried pecan but it looks delicious.

People turn like wild rabid animals when there's a sale on. Frail old ladies suddenly become muscle bound Amazon Warriors & fight to the death just over a tea cosy !

Wait, should the mayor really be canvassing during a public holiday?

True that.
...is nuts? Are nuts?
Depends partially on if you're using American or British English. Us UShobbits tend to treat collective nouns as singular (therefore using "is"), but the Brits tend to treat them as plural. There are exceptions though and usage also depends on context and personal taste, at least on this side of the pond.
Re: Tales of Home [6]
IL give you "personal taste"...........that pie !!
Today is your "Thanksgiving" isnt it, have a happy one !

Pecan pie is one of the most decadent creations in history. I don't know if you have brown sugar in other countries, but it's a custard made with brown sugar, butter, eggs, a dash of vanilla, sometimes a dollop of cream; all forming a backdrop to the flavor of lightly toasted pecans that permeates the whole thing. Likely the unhealthiest thing to put in your mouth, but it sure has positive psychological effects!

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Happy Thanksgiving.
I will say, my brother and I went out today for Black Friday (my first time, and I mostly went because I wanted to spend time with my brother). I got some things I needed and some good deals on movies that I had been holding out for. I didn't see anything this crazy, and people were mostly polite. The traffic was insane, though I tried to be courteous.
