I've seen Deadpool twice cause a friend who hadn't seen it yet was interested. Loved it just as much the second time, which isn't always something I can say about action-adventure movies (which, despite the pervasive comedy, is still basically what Deadpool was).

I saw the trailer for Deadpool when I saw the Revenant, and I think I decided then and there that it wasn't for me. Not that I begrudge anyone liking it, mind. Just basically the opposite of what I'm looking for in a movie. Razz

Oh I agree Smile theres more tongue in cheek than a brothel Smile But the nippy one liners & the dialogue, easily absorbed flash backs are great fun Smile It didnt take its self seriously right from the word go, Look at the opening credits ! ....
"some douche bags film"
"Starring Gods perfect Idiot"...................pic of Ryan Reynolds, ( looking hot )
"A hot chick"
"A British villain"
"The comic relief"
"A moody teen"
"A gratuitous cameo"
"Produced by asshats"
"written by the real heros here"
"Directed by an over paid tool"..............
Laughing
The bit I loved was when Deadpool held out a childish drawing of him & a baddie & said "do you recognise this man ?" Laughing It was giggles all the way. I found it fresh & lively & I loved it Smile

Finally saw Mad Max: Fury Road after having gotten it on Blu-ray for Christmas. Never seen any of the other Mad Maxes but it was a truly bizarre movie. Lots of cool action scenes and I definitely enjoyed watching it, but I dunno that it's the kind of movie I'm ever gonna feel the urge to watch again in the future. Generally speaking I like having a bit more of a clue what's going on and some more investment in the characters. That was my main objection to The Raid as well, though the martial arts action in that was truly phenomenal and made up for the paper thin story.

You need to see Road Warrior, which is actually the second in the Mad Max series. The first and second are theoretically a continuous progression, but are worlds apart in every way. Road Warrior has all the elements of Fury Road, but is more coherent and believable, and easier to buy into the characters.

As for the first Mad Max, it was a mere essay in the craft. Road Warrior (and thus those that followed) would never have been green-lighted without it's more timid prequel.

I've heard that The Road Warrior is the main one to see. Might try to hunt it down at some point, especially given what you've said about it.

I watched "Fast & Furious 7". It was full of outrageous chases & stunts Smile If there was a story line it was no different from the previous. Simple stories dragged out to make up the 2hrs or how long the film was Smile As much as I kinda like Vin Diesel his vocabulary gets smaller & smaller till all thats left is a twinkle in his eye & a grunt Smile Dear old "The Rock" Dwayne ' no brain' Johnson was the hammiest Ive seen him Smile half of what he said made me cringe, ok in such films like "Tooth Fairy" but not for FF7. He would have been perfect for "Small Soldiers" Smile The ending, for me, still plays on my mind, its both sad & beautiful, check it out.

For the most part I've loved The Rock in everything he's done, but he needs good writing. He doesn't have the acting chops to save a bad script.

I like The Rock as The Rock (sorta like Samuel L. Jackson usually plays variants of himself, or rather of his public persona), but I'm not sure if I've ever seen him in a serious dramatic role that required him to really flex his acting muscles. I guess he was subverting some of those expectations in Pain and Gain if the trailers were anything to go by, but I never actually saw that.

I didn't like the new Mad Max. I was expecting bizarre but it turned out just fucking stupid in my mind. A bit like the circus that batman films went in to when Val Kilmer took over from Michael Keaton. They were a bit strange before but after that it just seemed like an exercise in stupidity.

Watched Jurassic World at the weekend. That was an example of predictability if ever I saw one. I may have ruined the film for my other half a bit when I kept calling out what was about to happen. Only bit I enjoyed was the nostalgia trip when they were in the old visitor centre.

{{{Just downloaded the Despecialised edition (2.5 version) of Star Wars A New Hope by Harmy- the aim of it is to bring together all possible sources of original material and restore the 1977 version as was, no editions, but in full HD quality. The work gone into seems quite astounding- wil let you know what I think of it when I've given it watch- got a mate who incredibly has never seen Star Wars before, and has avoided doing so as he wanted to see the 'original'- so will be watching with them some time soonish)}}}

My semi-girlfriend can always call out the plot twists before anyone else sees them. She watches movies like she's playing a video game. I'm happier watching stuff with her that I've seen before. I swear she probably figured out the Sixth Sense a half hour before the end. I can well imagine her saying "I am you father" about 5 seconds before Vader said it...then everyone in the theatre would turn and look at her as she happily ate some more popcorn with her eyes glued to the screen.

I don't think Lucas screwed that much up by adding to Star Wars. A few more big critters that really weren't needed; and of course Han not shooting first. It's pretty much the same movie.

{{{Its not just the additions Halfy- bad as they are- its the poor quality transfer from the originals, terrible colour correction, primitive noise reductions techniques that produce smearing in the images and a whole host of other technical issues.}}}

Wouldn't it be easier just editing the new edition? Some chopping and rearranging here and there, a few critters to photoshop out, and you're done.

{{{{{No, doesn't work like that- I suggest a quick flick through the above vid to get an idea of what they have done, why and how. Interesting to note that the two people responsible for first making a home made scanning device to scan an original print of the film, and then or the original upscaling work on it as listed as two 'former members of the the original trilogy'- presumably they worked on the original film-it all seems very professionally done.}}}

Looking forward to your impressions of the Despecialized Edition, Petty. I tried downloading it once, but when I got to like the 25th file out of 70 that I'd eventually have to recombine post-downloading, I was notified that one of the files was missing. At that point I didn't feel like starting over with another download option. Razz

{{{The torrent I downloaded is a single video file so no problems there- if a film is plit into loads of zipped files I tend not to touch it with a barge pole- I just watched the first 20 minutes of it- quality is excellent, good as blue-ray- the melding of shots from different editions is so far seamless, in that I couldn't have told you if I didn't know it was being done it had been done. And it works- I mean really works- one of the problem with the updated versions of it is that it no longer feels authentic- everything here feels like it belongs, even when it is a bit ropey- its a late 70's film again, but that doesn't detract from it, it makes it all fell complete and homogeneous again- I am both impressed and utterly enjoying seeing it again in its original (or near as damned indistinguishable to it) form- to give it so far the best praise I can- I haven't enjoyed watching Star Wars again this much since the first time aged about 7.}}}

I was unsure about the torrent since my sister got tracked down by a media company through that once and they sent a threatening letter to our house. I definitely see why you're skeptical of the broken up files, though. Laughing I've enjoyed the few clips I've seen so I'm glad that you find the full thing (so far) to be so good. I'll have to give downloading it another try sometime. Razz
