Damn Computers (in appropriate category)
Okay, I'm attempting to claw the Damn Computers thread out of Arts and Entertainment.
For those who have PC, does flash player chew up a godawful amount of CPU the way it does in mac? It's the only thing that makes my fan start up.

Re: Damn Computers (in appropriate category)
I only notice flash player when it screws up, but then I have 6 gig of RAM in my pc so not likely to notice it when just browsing.
A quick nosey on the resource manager though shows it using up - 254,440K to run, which is about half of what my browser is using.
So yeah, of you've only got a gig of RAM say then that's a fair chunk of it on Flash.

Wargames. Terminator is just around the corner.
As far as flash goes, I have more memory than you; but the issue is CPU. Flash just seems to monopolize it, sending electrons sloshing around and heating up the computer.
I can understand this while playing video, but even on a webpage that has slides with arrows to click to go to the next one, I see Flash using up CPU as my fan goes on. there's just no reason for this. Stupidly inefficient bit of software. I was just wondering if it was as bad on PC.

Intel 2 core duo. Not sure what the duo stands for.
2.5 GHz processor 1 GHz bus.
Actually, I only have 4 GB memory, thought I had 8. Oh well.

Re: Damn Computers (in appropriate category)
Im guessing then its just processor heavy.
I have a 3.07 gigahertz Intel Core i7 950 which has 4 cores (Im guessing the duo part in yours means it has two)
so is probably why I dont notice it using up resources as much.
Might have something to do with the size of thememroy cache.
I dont know what that would be for your cpu- but if you google and download Belarc Advisor it will give the full info on your system (handy prog to have anyway as it also will tell you handy info like what all the serial numbers are for installed software- useful for those rare but annoying occasions when a bit of software wants the serial again and you've lost the bloody thing).

My laptop knowledge is sketchy Im afraid Halfy, Ive never owned one or got beyond cursing the damn things for not being a proper pc when I have to use them.
I imagine laptops get a lot hotter a lot quicker than a desktop set up which would explain the fan kicking in when it uses a cpu intensive program.

Re: Damn Computers (in appropriate category)
You can send groups of pictures at once Figg.
Your best bet for doing this is to create something called a zip file- think of it like a bag that you can put all your pictures together into before zipping the bag closed and sending it to someone else, and when the person receives it they can unzip the 'bag' and get all the pictures out of it.
The most common used zip file is probably winrar or winzip. You should be able to find and download them with a google search if your computer doesnt already have one of them installed.

If it's only 5 or 10, you can attach each one separately to the same message. Just keep hitting the attachment button.

Re: Damn Computers (in appropriate category)
But if they are big images, your email program may not want to send that much data, in which case you'll have to send several messages with smaller batches of images. You'll know when it bounces back with a whole bunch of shit but buried in there is something about something being too large. All written in 18th century transliterated Sumerian, for clarity of course.
But most modern email servers should be able to handle 10 images.

yeah Ancient Sumerians hate big batches they seem to think they invented writing and the wheel and get uppity. I think ancient Sumerian is probably easier to understand.
