...or it is a reason to start.
Those pictures make me sad. It's scene with 15 people in a small room, and he is alone. I can't really think of anything other to say.

Doesn't work with the 3D camera set up, apparently. When filming in stereoscopic 3D, they have two lenses which film from slightly different angles. The forced perspective trick is dependent on the camera being in a very precise location relative to what is being filmed. It's impossible to have both lenses do this when filming in 3D.
Re: Caption this picture
Well they didn't have to film it in 3D.

Re: Caption this picture
My second cousin once remove (or something like that) was actually one of the big people behind figuring out the forced perspective (in fact, he's explaining it in the video!). I was riding in a car with him going at 90 mph through montana as he explained it to me, how everyone else had forgotten high school geometry.
Anyway, his name is almost exactly mine, with a letter or two difference (historical differences as the family diverged). I had no idea he was working on it (in fact had no idea he even existed) until I was sitting in the theatre watching the credits to FotR, and I saw my name! (or close to it). Went home and inquired and found out for the first time about this branch of the family (clearly I don't take a hobbit like interest in this stuff).
By chance a year later I was passing through and looked him up.
His big break was doing the ping-pong scene in Forrest Gump. Everyone was trying to work it out mathematically and were going crazy, he just did it by eye. Sort of ironic given that his math skills came in so useful later.

Re: Caption this picture
I would love to do dna testing to find out my ancestry, or geneogolgy to find out about ancestors, where they came from and what they did for a living, I enjoy watching that programme 'who do you think you are' some celebs go in search of their Heritage with some surprising results. Just think! if just one of your ancestors, in thousands of years, hadnt made it, say in a freak accident or the plague or war etc, you wouldnt be here looking at this thread.

I think like that also, Its SO fascinating to find out your ancestry. Of course I have my weird moments & think....what if Jack The Ripper was my great, great, grandad ?? There must be someone who's related but doesnt know it ?? maybe ???

It's sad to see how they have traded all the cool tricks which looks real, with new tricks which clearly look fake.

Re: Caption this picture
Yep. A blend of the two is needed.
Oddly enough, I don't really care about my ancestry. I've got my current crop of cousins, and that's about as far as I care to go.

Re: Caption this picture
Moxing old school techniques and modern ones is always in my view the best way to go.
Sadly the choice to shooting 3D meant all the old ways had to go, it just doesn't work in that format.
I feel the same about ST films once they went all cgi ships- yes they have a lot more surface detail and texture, but they lose the sense of weight and solidity the models lent the ships, and hence a feel of reality. The best approach is to use the models as traditional them use the cgi on the models to add in extra detail and sell the sense of scale.

Fuck. You.
May your bullshit comic book legacy die out and every single copy of all your films end up as recycled cat-litter boxes.
