So I finished book 5.
Thoughts.
I've read two of the Winds of Winter preview chapter excerpts,
which are great. Really looking forward to that now.
So, what to do now? Join the "Get off your arse and finish this thing already, George." club perhaps.
Thoughts.

- I think the story in book 4 and 5 suffers under the fact that the storylines becomes less and less divergent during the books. Book 1 to 3 were all very "War of 5 kings" centric. For the entirety of book 4 and 5 a lot of poeple seemed to be on a journey of one sort or another, none of which really reach any conclusion. If anything ADWD leaves one with nothing but cliffhangers.
It's still riveting reading, but one does wonder where George will take his story next when these current storylines reach their conclusions.
And it was fun to have Varys pop up again. Though poor Kevan. He seemed to be something as rare as a decent Lannister. Though we all know what happens to decent people in Georges books.

Little Finger, of course.
If anything Little Finger was the one who got the most out of it. Olenna wanted Jeoffrey removed as she saw the boy he was and the man he would become and didn't want her granddaughter to marry him.
Little Figner on the other hand realised that not only would it remove Jeoffrey, but Cersei would blame Tyrion. And so with one stroke he would pull the Lannisters appart from the inside.
It's interesting to note that Little Finger played a role in the last pivotal moment in the story as well, choosing to turn on Ned after Roberts death. If he had supported Ned, Ned would have ruled as Lord Regent and lived.
One does wonder what he hopes to achieve. I think Varys says to Ned somewhere in the first book/series.Littlefinger... the gods only know what game Littlefinger is playing.
