Ah, okay. Something to look forward to then. And err.. not.
That's all I asked.

I'm watching Silver Spoon on Netflix. It's pretty good.

Re: Favorite Anime
There are few single frames that can squeeze in so much haunting emotion as the quotes at the ends of certain Cowboy Bebop episodes.

Excellent choice. I haven't watched it all the way through but I've seen bits of both seasons so far and Silver Spoon never fails to entertain me. All the more impressive for being so different for the original manga author's most famous work.

Yeah I'm really enjoying it. Love the real life setting and dilemmas. A lot of anime seems to be fantasy and sci-fi so this is pretty refreshing for me.

The silver sandwich one isn't all that far off actually.

I guess this makes most sense in the context of this.

Iroh
I've always had mixed feelings about Ed, but Ein is one hell of a dog. I hope he was useful enough for you in the end. The episode where Ed & Ein get to have a mini-adventure of their own (Mushroom Samba, I think?) was amazing.

It's interesting that you bring this up as there's something of a controversy in anime fandom about the (perceived) increasing prevalence of slice of life shows. I think some of that stems from so many people getting into anime by way of sci-fi/fantasy series. Certainly that was the case for me as well, so to some extent I associate anime with SF/F and other geeky stuff. But a good story is a good story, and there are plenty of really good stories to be told about the real world and about everyday situations. Though unfortunately there are plenty of "slice of life" shows that don't really have a story at all, but you find garbage in every genre.
Bunny Drop (Usagi Drop) is one of my favorite slice of life shows. It's a small but memorable cast with an incredibly sweet story. The manga went badly off the rails in its second half; thankfully the anime avoids this but it does leave the show without much of a conclusion as it just sorts of breaks off. But even with that caveat, I'd recommend the show strongly.

Hey, what's with the hating on Ed.
Ein definitely proved useful in the end. Although how Jet justified hooking him up to the damn eutinasia thing after he just saved his life from it, I'll never know.

Re: Favorite Anime
Out of curiosity, have you seen the movie yet? That if anything has only grown in my estimation over the years.
Re: Favorite Anime
Not yet. But I do plan to.
Also, getting back to watching Avatar a bit, I think I'm getting in the mood to give the finale another go. I've kind of been saving it up.

Re: Favorite Anime
I've been continuing my incredibly long, agonizingly slow ATLA rewatch lately. It started back in February for the 10th anniversary as part of a group but I couldn't maintain interest in watching at the slow pace we had, so I was gonna just zoom ahead, but then GOT started and I fell behind instead. The group rewatch ended over the summer but I'm determined to finish it eventually (and then next time I feel like rewatching the whole show, marathon it ). At this point I'm just watching an episode or two every couple weeks as the mood strikes me, but I suspect I'll power through once I'm closer to the end.
But yeah, lesson learned: scheduled group watch/read threads are not for me. I get stressed out enough by schedules and deadlines at work.

Re: Favorite Anime
Yeah, they're not really for me either. I tend to either rush ahead or fall behind.
Hey, maybe we'll somehow, completely without planning too and follwing completely random viewing schedules and speeds, manage to get around to the finale at about the same time. I'm almost impressed.

Re: Favorite Anime
The kids are watching some Avatar episodes now and then. I thought that might mean I got to see it all from start to finish, but they choose episodes based on the pictures over the episode titles, so it's even more random than the first time I watched. And more repetitive... Now it's episode three in book one.

Re: Favorite Anime
This year's rewatch is actually the first time I've tried to watch the whole show in order. I started off watching episodes online that my brother suggested or that I thought looked interesting and only gradually became aware of the overarching story. Later on I'd usually jump back into the show at a certain point that was on my mind and watch from there, or jump around between different favorite episodes. There are certainly some things I've noticed watching it all in sequence that I hadn't before, but overall it's actually not been as radically different an experience as I thought it might.
Re: Favorite Anime
Hmm. You know, here's me thinking the ambassador in the family needs to put up some well thought through viewing schedules for the family group. After all your subjects.. err.. family will get a lot more out of the story if they watch it in narrative order.
I watched it narratively the first time I watched it. Been jumping about a bit since then though, but I always try to catch a coherent part of the story when I revisit it.

Re: Favorite Anime
If they weren't as stubborn as their mother, then that might have worked.
I have insisted they should at least finish the first season/book before moving on to book 2. That almost worked, I think most have been watched, but not by both kids and not in order.

Re: Favorite Anime
Ah, yes. I have that problem too. But as I only have to convince myself, I can normally come up with a solution.

Book 2 lends itself really well to chronological viewing though. You could always give it another go.
