Charlie Broker did a brilliantly funny piece on the Olympics as part of his screenwipe show- its on the iplayer and worth a watch, sadly not on youtube yet.

Re: the olympics
I might have to have a look at that.
I'm feeling quite ambivalent about the Olympics this year for some reason. And with it on TV2 in Fjordlandia, with all that advertising, I'm not sure how much of it I'll see either.
But best of luck to your friend of course, Tin.

Re: the olympics
Blue, i don't think u should complain that much...it could've been worse. much worse.. it's only five minutes commercial brakes..
Re: the olympics
Yeah, I'm not complaining really. I'm just a bit ambivalent about it all. Though maybe not the thread to keep pointing that out in, I agree.
If you guys are exited about it, that's great.

Re: the olympics
Anyone watch the opening ceremony?
BBC Newsnight were pointing out the potted Russian history the presented in the ceremony and skated over a lot of highly dodgy ground- which is odd as I dont remember the London Olympics opening ceremony having sections on when the British Empire was the histories biggest drug dealer using opium to subdue entire nations, and I must have fallen asleep during the bit where we recounted being the worlds biggest slave traders!

Re: the olympics
I'm only catching snippets of the Olympics, but the Red Army Chorus is making me very happy. Actually I should post it on the Music thread.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well It's what all host countries do, I don't see the problem. The Russians want to show us what's beautiful and nice about the country, and how could we blame them? They could really use some positive advertisement.
The anthem was epic, gave me goosebumps all over

Yeah, I love that.
Shocking thing is, he apparently did exactly the same thing in the semifinal.

Re: the olympics
I thought it was a good ceremony, even if admittedly its hard to shake the feeling that whoever was responsible for the Olympic Ring failing may not be heard or seen ever again!

At forty. That's rather impressive.
Also Fjordlandia had already won gold, silver and bronze today.
Nothing like some winter sports to raise fjordlandian national spirits.
I wasn't that interested? Well, I heard it in passing on the radio.

Re: the olympics
Yeah, we've had a good day. It's just, Bjørndalen's medal was so unexpected. This will probably be his last games, he's 40 and still wins a gold medal in an individual competition. That is impressive indeed. What a man machine!

Re: the olympics
And then we always have selected photos of the Russian female team selectively covered:
http://www.adme.ru/olimpiada/nasha-zhenskaya-sbornaya-olimpiady-619005/
Maybe I should be offended at the objectification of these women, but when looking at these pictures I can't seem to crash enough neurons together to do it.
