We got a bit of that already with the silly story additions in the computer games, didn't we.
So people are obviously ready to go that far to make money off Tolkiens works.
How an agreement on movie rights allows you to do those things? Well, it all sounds a bit strange to me as well. And I have studied copyright law.

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies'...
Maybe they've added another flashback where Thranduil brutally kills Azog's grandfather ROFLOL.
I do find it nauseating/laughable their main excuse to use Azog instead of Bolg 'I makes the timeline more personal to Thorin' was totally jettisoned in D.O.C, I can't even be arsed contemplating what they are going to do in film three as they'll probably refilm it entirely in an underwater motion capture unit the night before the premiere.
Or something carbbit like that.

From past history, the reason for the pick-up shots is probably as simple as:
1. Watched rough edit
2. Saw gaping plot holes, therefore...
3. Adding extra surfing and cliff-dangling scenes to distract audience from the implausible plot.

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies'...
Since Nesbitt has only been confirmed thus far, maybe 20 minutes of him playing the flute whilst doing bungee jumps off an Orcs's head are coming up?
How can they have 'gaping plot holes' when there is hardly any plot left? Oh wait THE APPENDICES!

Of course, some idiots are going to want to know how Thranduil got his scar

You know, I think I can skip this movie. I think I can do it. I skipped Revenge of the Sith. How hard can it be?

Well I actually enjoyed Revenge of The Sith (hey I was 12) when it came out (haven't seen it in years) so I guess my opinions count for nothing, but I definitely will see the film, if only out of a sense of morbid curiosity, I'm sure their will be things (apart from it ending) that I might enjoy.
Let's face it if we don't see the film Petty definitely won't-his parodies are better than the film, and judging on the first two TABA should be a goldmine.

I'm not sure why I paid to see Revenge of the Sith, come to think of it

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies'...
maybe PJ realized as the credits rolled on TABA that they had actually forgotten poor Bilbo outside Erebor in DOS as the whole of the 3 hours of TABA had trundled along totally without him. Maybe they are peppering him in shot willy-nilly as an afterthought.

Seems likely. Did Bilbo have three proper scenes before they got to the Lonely Mountain in DoS?
Martin Freeman can say it's called the Hobbit all he likes. Thorin is certainly the main character to Peter Jackson and co.

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies'...
Yeah those computer games are pretty bad for the most part. I think the ones that came out like ten years ago to tie-in with Two Towers and Return of the King were actually pretty good though. There was also the Battle for Middle Earth RTS series which wasn't half bad. Since like 2006 though the games coming out have been generally terrible.Bluebottle wrote:Recoveryanonymous wrote:I certainly hope we don't see a lotr cartoon show on kids WB.

Oh man you missed out.
Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies'...
I still wear by the TTT and ROTK hack and slash games. They're a ton of fun. (And were also my introduction to Middle-earth. ) I haven't played BFME but I've heard nothing but good things about it, unlike any of the games since it with the partial exception of LOTRO.

I tried LOTRO once. Boring! Just like WoW. Go collect ten of these. Now kill fifteen of these. Now go here and talk to this person.

Also, on this same topic, I haven't been able to listen to "Duel of the Fates" the same way since seeing this.

It really sucks because I actually like liked "Duel of the Fates". But I can't listen to it without busting out laughing now.

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies'...
It's sad because so many people seem to be in favor of it. We on this forum are mostly in agreement but we're a small minority compared to the rest of the fanbase. It's their opinion and they're welcome to it; I'm certainly no authority, but a series of Silmarillion movies or these bridge films just feel wrong to me.David H wrote:bungobaggins wrote:Top comment from that news story.in my view: the growth of the power of Sauron, the wanderings of Gollum, the love affair between Arwen and Aragorn, the story of the Dwarves' return to Moria - all would make wonderful grist for PJ's mill!
I can at least agree with the author on this point. He'd pulverize it until it was unrecognizable meal, then feed it to the hungry masses.
