So he is just Azog with a big black hand print on his face- presumably to be vaguely reminiscent of the big white hand on the Uruks - even though that was Sarumans symbol

Re: Cgi Bolg
Hi Johnny, I made your images inlined so people can see them easily.
I've got to be honest, I've always thought the original Bolg design was horrible and jarringly out of place with the rest of the film. So even though I wish they'd stuck with prosthetics in general, I don't miss this particular design.

Doesn't look like a handprint to me; pretty sure it's metal bands holding his head together (similar to the non-CGI design).

Re: Cgi Bolg
Bolg Shmolg! Ass-hob is clearly the real villain of the books and movies! /s
Eh, I liked the first design. I didn't find it particularly frightening (I never found PJ's orc/goblin/uruk designs to be remotely scary.)
The new design will just blend in well with all the fakey fake stuff.
In that gif Johnny posted, I don't think any of that is real.

Peter Jackson just needs to make video games. Someone needs to keep him away from movies.

He was supposed to be working on a Halo spin-off game, but that came to the same fate as the Halo movie.
Re: Cgi Bolg
So wheres the picture of the "new and improved" Bolg? All I see is the picture of Conan Stevens as Bolg/ Azog/ whatever character he has been changed to this week

The dude in the GIF at the top of the thread is Bolg. Azog is this guy (note the lack of metal shit on his face):
Re: Cgi Bolg
only thing I am seeing is the pic at the top of the thread which looks like the old Conan Stevens version of Bolg. Maybe I'm going blind or something

Re: Cgi Bolg
The old Bolg looks kind of gross but also pretty bad-ass as well. That war club is fairly wicked as well. Don't know what's up with his face; like something gnawed at it.

Re: Cgi Bolg
ok had to copy and paste from the original thread to see it but yeah it looks like the strapping that is holding Bolg's head together to me. Not a fan of the whole fake looking CGI characters I must say.

I don't recall the exact procession of character concepts and actors, but double-checking just now it seems that Conan Stevens was originally cast as Azog before being recast as Bolg. I think some of the designs were shifted from one of those characters to the other, too. The whole orc villain front has been messy.

Re: Cgi Bolg
Do you think they'll go back and change AUJ so Bolg is CGI for the battle of Arse and Bull?

Re: Cgi Bolg
Nah they'll just change it to another character that gets killed off in the BoAB
Conan Stevens went from being the main bad guy to a 5 second cameo in the whole trilogy...WTF?!!! Bet he's pissed about that

Re: Cgi Bolg
By the sounds of it, Bolg's role in DOS is pretty negligible, so I doubt they'll be too concerned about. At most, they can just say it's actually two different orcs, since Bolg was not identified by name in AUJ. PJ hasn't shown any interest in re-editing any of the films after the EE drops, though.

I was trying to figure out if Conan Stevens is still doing the mo-cap work for CGI!Bolg. I've heard a number of people say that it was Lawrence Makoare, but I couldn't find confirmation with a few minutes of poking around.
It would really suck for Conan Stevens if true, though.

It was in one of the last two Video blogs Eldo they showed Lawrence Makoare in the Mo-cap suit doing Bolg, i think it was Vlog 12

Re: Cgi Bolg
Makoare can be seen in one of the vlogs doing mo-cap for Bolg. I've forgotten which one though.
I think it's #12.
Oh, Sin, you sneaky bee!

Re: Cgi Bolg
Ah, I didn't recall that. Yeah, seems like Stevens got screwed out of a role in the trilogy. :/ Cast in two separate roles, but both were replaced by CGI with two different actors doing the mocap work.
