The thing you can see sticking out of the top of the hill is Holmenkollen, a big ski jumping hill in Oslo. I'm always surprised you can see it from here, as it's not actually on the hill you can see, but the one behind that again. Mostly though.. the sky was just pretty nice..

So, no Olympics for Oslo then.
http://nrk.no/norge/hoyre-knuser-ol-drommen-1.11962392
Which I guess will make some people happy, considering the amount of oppostition to this around the country
There's actually been claims that the rejection is a result of a general dislike for people from Oslo in the rest of the country.
http://www.nrk.no/sport/redaktor_-_elsker-a-hate-oslofolk_-1.11963696
I think that a little unfair. Amusing though.

Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
I don't think Oslo is missing out on anything by not hosting the Olympics. IOC is ridiculously corrupt (as is FIFA), and most host cities end up in the financial hole for years if not decades after hosting.
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
I think the whole Oslo Olympics is ridiculous. Either get the winter olympics to northern Norway or just arrange them somewhere else Now it is lovely autumn weather here. I just love being home in the holidays!

I could write five prargraphs on why Oslo should not get the olympics and three more why the north should have it if norway got it
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
But i am on my phone so that makes it dificult ...
I wish i was up north too huffjuff...

Haha, well. Although having the Olympics up north would have been spectacular, I'm not sure it would have been any less a waste of resources at the end of the day.
I agree having the Olympics in Oslo was probably never a good idea, even ignoring the massive weight of public opinion against it.
As I think I've said before, I think a lot of the support for having the Olympics in Oslo was based on the Cross Country World Championships being such a success. The Olympics are a completely different animal though, and while Norwegians love the traditional sports, like cross country skiing and so on, I'm not sure the interest in water polo on ice, or whatever some of the more obscure sports included are, could ever have justified the invesment needed.

A northern Olympics would have been magical. Oslo might have worked out if they hadn't first sabotaged Tromsø, excluded the rest of the country then act super shocked that people aren't cheering them on.
Go Sweden! I hope they get it instead.
Wait, water polo on ice? With or without horses?

I completely agree with this, by the way. My comment was just directed at Olympics in general.

Also I find it amusing that I posted a picture at Holmenkollen at the top of this page.
It oddly turned out to be kind of on topic.

I might actually go visit the Olympics if they ever came back to Lake Placid, New York, as I have family near there and have skied on the courses there before (badly). But generally speaking I think it'd be best to keep the IOC at arm's length.
