I would never want to live in an Olympic host city. Too many horror stories from past ones (cf. Montreal, Athens).
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
I think the Winter Olympics is a whole lot smaller an affair than the Summer ones. And some of the competitions will be held around Lillehammer, as well.
But we'll see how it'll turn out if it happens, I don't think they have even decided to apply for it yet.
Certainly not in your parts. 15%? That's not a lot is it.
But, yeah, it seems to be heading in the opposite direction if anything.

But the benefits to the city can be long lasting. I road through Atlanta on a greyhound bus about a quarter century ago: downtown was all dusty warehouses and blowing newspapers. Now it's quite nice, thanks to the Olympics. And I think Madrid got quite a facelift as well. Beijing's Olympic area is pretty underutilized, and the airport they built is ridiculously cavernous - without the olympic crowds you really do feel like a tour group being led through a nearly empty monumental cave.

I rather enjoyed those music videos, Nora.
I think it's great when you get those mixtures of musical styles. And bring sàpmi culture and language into it as well. Certainly a good way to celebrate sàpmi national day.
And Frognerparken. That's certainly very recognisable for anyone from Oslo. (Which is the place where there lives most sàpmi people in Norway, I think.)

I love hearing music and vocal techniques that remind us that entire cultures have risen and vanished before us, and there is depth and intensity that we have never heard before, buried in the flow of time.
I thought I had heard music from nearly every culture on earth, but the echoes I heard in that song are unfamiliar to me.

And the singer is a Doctor of Law as well? And a singer. And a poet.
Certainly sounds a fascinating character.

yeah, he's awesome.. really dry sense of humour though but i still laugh yeah, he teaches law and is very engage in sami rights
i remember once, he did a wolf joik (a joik is not like a song, u joik a person or a mountain) so basically he stood there and growled and barked.. and one of our dogs started growling back and was not really sure how to react to that

Haha.
Yeah, he sounds like a great guy. I might look him up and see if he has written some legal articles actually, as I find the whole issue of rights of indigenous people quite interesting. Particularily as we have such a group right here in our own country.

So why are we overrun with Norwegian style Fjordlandians and not Swedish style Fjordlandians? Is there a cultural difference? Will you find more Tolkien fans in Oslo than in Stockholm?

All the potential Tolkien fans in Sweden were scared off by the horrendous translation of The Lord of the Rings that was published in their country.

That's interesting, Eldo. Wasn't aware of that.
Tolkien is certainly very popular here. I think from the age of 10 all the boys in my class read LotRs. I read it the most, and that was actual bragging rights. It was cool to have read the LotRs a lot of times in my class.
